i've seen virgin thunderbirds arround manchester a lot lately
editBoth pulling trains (ususally without another loco suggesting they aren't doing rescue work) and running light. Is this something to do with engineering works or are virgin having reliability problems? Plugwash 13:36, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- i don't know but you'd be better off asking in a web forum, not here! — Dunc|☺ 10:27, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- They are currently working Arriva Trains Wales services on the North Wales Coast Line with due to a shortage of units. Our Phellap 12:09, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Merger proposal
editI think that the articles on the sub-classes should all be merged into the main Class 57 article. This is becuase the sub-class articles mainly duplicate information in the main article. It would be far better to have all the information contained within one article. An example of where this works effectivley is the British Rail Class 47 article. --Jorvik 11:38, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Agree - more in line with other articles. Simply south 12:05, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- Have completed merger following no objections. --Jorvik 18:54, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Should this now be merged with the class 47 article, after all they are historically the same locomotives, rather than a class apart? (SouthernElectric 14:51, 24 October 2007 (UTC))

57305 paint change
editThis has been raised a few times as an edit, however the editor has neglected to add a reliable source. Is there a reliable source which can be used to confirm this? Danners430 (talk) 21:49, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
57308 - Jamie Ferguson - altered coupling?
editI notice that this locomotive has an coupling system at the front (folded up) as well as a traditional chain and hook affair…
Is this a recent addition to all 57’s? 92.40.196.77 (talk) 09:49, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
- This was added during Virgin Trains’ tenure on the WCML - it’s a Scharfenberg coupler, used to allow the 57s to couple to Pendolinos in an emergency, or when on non-electrified lines. Danners430 (talk) 17:07, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
- These are Thunderbird locos. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:46, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
