This page is inaccurate. For example, EdPer was founded in 1959. It did not acquire majority shares in Brascan until the late 70’s/ early 80’s.
Beyond the specific inaccuracies, I would argue that the “history” outlined on this page does not reflect that the trajectory of Brookfield’s growth. The story starts with EdPer, which is an offshoot of Seagram’s and Son’s. In the late 1960’s Edward and Peter Bronfman hired Jack Cockwell to manage their investments. Jack Cockwell previously worked for the accounting firm Touché Ross (now known as Deloitte) , whoch handled the accounting for Seagram’s. Cockwell was very familiar with Seagram’s labyrinth of trusts snd subsidiaries and applied this same convoluted investment strategy at EdPer. In the late 1970’s / early 80’s Cockwell oversaw the hostile takeover of Brascan. Brascan was simply an investment vessel that was plundered by cockwell and repurposed.

This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered.
Hi. The newly added "Controversies" section, including the sub-section "Responsibility in 1929 São Paulo Flood" should be entirely removed from the article. An examination of the sources reveals that Brookfield is not mentioned in either source. The last sentence added after the sources is not sourced, and is not supported by either source, and therefore violates WP:OR. Thank you for your consideration.
