Sources
editAfter looking through several sources at the bottom of the page, I can say that the sources are good. First of all, there are a lot of them! The sources were diverse and the links seem to work for the most part. The sources that I checked all support claims within the article itself and provide further information. I think that this article about the Burkini provides good evidence. Andhenne (talk) 02:26, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Events in France
editThe events in France surrounding this garment are part of a wider historical context - that of the discussion over muslim dress in France in general (and potentially a similar issue regarding swimwear). Someone researching this garment in an academic context are likely to want to know how it's different stylings have affected it's usage. This story is now in multiple news outlets, and looks likely to cause further debate over both muslim dress and swimwear in France. Just because something is new does not mean that something is a recentism that must be removed. Given the level of coverage this story has been given already, and it's wider relevance, it does deserve a mention here. To insist on removing the detailing of hard facts based on the rational of 'recentism' alone to only allow it to be added in a identical form later (which would be appropriate, given the level of sourcing possible) is patently absurd. Please justify any further removal of this information is greater depth than such a simple statement as 'recenism' in future. LinaMishima (talk) 23:35, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
There is no way to gage that until time has passed. I'm going to remove it from now because it is still a recentism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ExactOnly (talk • contribs) 18:51, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Recentism is not valid grounds for this decision, especially since the principle only exists in essay form. The 'ban' in France is clearly notable, and verifiable, and the line you removed was of proportionate weight for how new this issue is. Further, one needs only to look at the wider discussions over muslim attire in France (and arguably, Europe in general) to see the wider relevance. As already mentioned, the sources we currently have are more than sufficient for this to be added to the article, so to propose that we wait an arbitrary amount of time before re-adding it patently absurd, and simply cannot be rationally justified. Please do try, however, if you wish to remove the entry again, and please attempt to find some rationale based on WP policy. Clearly, current events are regularly detailed on wikipedia, so there is no issue at all with something simply being recent. LinaMishima (talk) 19:09, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Agree -- if the article claimed to diagnose the deep significance of current events, or if coverage of current events overwhelmed the rest of the article, then there might be a problemm; however, including a concise sourced summary of the current controversy the way it's currently done is not a problem. Burqini → Burkini – While Zanetti herself seems to prefer the spelling "burqini", she uses both, and quick searches indicate that the spelling "burkini" is much more common: e.g., on Google News there are almost 100 times more hits for burkini. Eperoton (talk) 21:10, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

- Support move as the common spelling. Given recent events, "burkini" has become much more common than "burqini", and the article title should reflect that. ONR (talk) 04:38, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

Quotes in "Modest dress" section
editWould someone with access to the source by Heather Akou be able to provide more context about who said or wrote the quotes in this section? They don't sound very scholarly, so I think Akou may have been quoting others. Leangle30 (talk) 05:12, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
