Code of Conduct
editThe old Bar code of conduct is now deprecated; the rules are now at the Bar Standards Board handbook, the relevant part being at [1], specifically rules C29-C30. SamBC(talk) 12:24, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
I have updated the section, perhaps the deprecation warning should be removed now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.92.25.121 (talk) 19:46, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- The link to BSB Guidance no longer leads to the relevant document, and I could not find it by searching the BSB index. I propose to replace it with a direct link to the latest handbook.

- The wording of rC29 appears to be identical.

History
editA history section has been added in a way that seems to be mainly designed to show the conscience group "Lawyers are Responsible" in a bad light. There may be content in edit prior to my last reversion but I felt it safer to revert the whole thing and let a more neutral editor add it rather than have a go myself. - The "main design" was to balance and give context to the only historical event currently mentioned by means of adding subsequent significant historical events.
- The historical event currently mentioned gives undue prominence, and no balance, to the opinion of a group that are not authoritative and that the authority publicly contradicted not long afterwards (in legal timescales!).
- Many of the historical events are symptomatic of tensions between the BSB and various groups of lawyers over the Cab Rank Rule. I have tried very hard to be objective on all these - but am open to suggestions for improvements - or even just make the improvements inline rather than delete them wholesale!
- I think it safe to say, after monitoring a number of legal forums, that the ongoing challenge to the CAB Rank Rule by "Lawyers are Responsible" is one of the most significant events in this Rules 100s of years history and it should certainly be included. The BSB's latest "warning shot" makes no sense without mentioning the event that they were shooting at.
- Before I reinstate the history, I would very much like your detailed suggestion on how to avoid showing the "Lawyers are Responsible" "in a bad light" with respect to this Rule.
- P.S. Please note that I feel it is your own judgement that this shows "lawyers are responsible" "in a bad light". Do you not agree with their declared motives and justifications for this defiance of the rule?
