editThe California Tort Claims Actis the collective reference name, or title, for a series of statutes which codify all of the laws under which a claim or suit may be initiated by private parties against the State of California, its counties, cities and various governmental agencies or bodies. The Act also addresses procedures for effecting payment of claims and judgments. The California Tort Claims Act is found at Government Code §§810-996.6. This statutory scheme replaced earlier common law.December1973 (talk) 03:22, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
