Israel Falou scandal
editSomething about Cameron Clyne saying that Rugby Union would have “no sponsors” if it didn’t fire Israel Falou should be included because many would not have heard of Clyne before this incident (evident in the brevity of this Wiki page). Numerous sources could be cited but this one has some of the best legal analysis: https://www.news.com.au/sport/sports-life/comments-from-rugby-australia-chair-could-turn-israel-folau-case/news-story/4d8fb85225c7de314878229036bb2757 120.29.45.228 (talk) 11:17, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
- Daily Telegram is now behind a paywall but Miranda Devine has written an excellent article about Cameron Clyne, notably that whilst Clyne stated "I would also say that we didn’t bring this situation on. We didn’t press send on this [post]" when speaking with Nine. Devine then notes that "In September 2017, Clyne’s board decided to take sides in the same-sex marriage campaign". "In its arrogance, bowing to pressure from sponsors, it disrespected Polynesian Christians like Folau who comprise more than half its playing pool" (https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/rendezview/corporates-morality-has-erupted-in-religious-war/news-story/75dace034b39559377420cc0dffff36b). In response, other publications like The Australian have then grabbed on to this, with respectable journalist Janet Albrechtsen saying "Here is another own goal by Rugby Australia. On Friday, RA chairman Cameron Clyne said it had to sack Israel Folau because sponsors made it clear they would have deserted the sporting body if it did not" (https://www.theaustralian.com.au/commentary/rugby-boss-sticks-the-boot-into-his-own-team/news-story/d88a6dab47ac4ec92ecd49d6de05fa5b). All over the news and certainly worthy of immediate publication on this Wikipedia page! 58.96.58.182 (talk) 08:16, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
