1970-1980's

The following paragraph was added lately:

"During the late 1970's and early 1980's, South Africa's National Party government became increasingly concerned that the Regiment, whose rank and file were seen to be politically liberal and opposed to Apartheid, would not be prepared to suppress anti-Apartheid unrest internally in South Africa amongst local non-white township populations and white protestor groups in the Cape Town area. In order to gain control of the Regiment, the government flooded the unit's ranks with Afrikaners and other National Party supporters from outside of the main recruitment pool area (Cape Peninsula), generally with the rank of NCO or above. This ethnic and political re-engineering of the unit totally altered the tone and culture of the Regiment which had formerly been based on English-speaking South Africans of Scottish or UK descent."

Although it reads as being very plausable, I think a citation to support this statement is needed - and will add further weight to its validity. I have not removed it from the article, but have added a "citation needed" tag to the section. Farawayman (talk) 16:44, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Use of - in South West Africa for Battle Honours

Someone made a change without paying attention to the effect it would have on a template. In the battle honours template, it is "South West Africa" NOT "South-West Africa". If you believe this is incorrect, you need to do a number of things: 1. Check the Government Gazette to see what the BH was actually named when awarded 2. If it is different to how it is reflected in the template, then change the template and then 3. Ensure that every single page which uses the template reflects that change.

Regiment in article's name

I don't think "regiment" is needed. When one refers to highlanders in a military context, it's usually presumed that they are a formation (i.e. a regiment or battalion) of some sort. See the Gordon Highlanders, the Calgary Highlanders, and the Highlanders Nor do any webpages refer to the regiment as such. Though this may not be relevant considering its renaming. Cape Town Highlanders name remains unchanged

As of an announcement published by defenceWeb regarding SANDF Directorate Defence Corporate Communication's statement that the Cape Town Highlanders' name remains unchanged, the Wikipedia article can revert/be moved back to its previous title? Could you assist with this?
