Christianity in Indonesia

edit

This article really doesn't need to exist. Protestantism and Catholicism should be combined into one Christianity in Indonesia article. 75.18.9.162 21:07, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

No Protestantism and Catholicism have different histories in Indonesia. Besides they already have articles about Catholicism in every Asian country. Meursault2004 22:46, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I disagree completely. Some Catholics would not be happy to be grouped with other Christian denomination (that includes myself). Besides, Catholic and Protestantism are regaded as different religion in Indonesia (which recognise 5 - or six now??) (as Katolik - sometimes referred as Katolik Roma and Kristen Protestan)--w_tanoto (talk) 00:02, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Importance

edit

Why has this article been rated as mid-importance on the importance scale by Calupict? Yes the number of them is quite low compared to other religions. However Catholics in Indonsia are not marginal you know. Relatively many national heroes are Catholics. I am sure you have good reasons for this. But please elaborate here. Thank you Meursault2004 22:46, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

move to "Roman Catholicism in Indonesia"

edit

I propose a move to "Roman Catholicism in Indonesia" to make it the same as in other countries, such as this one: Roman Catholicism in Great Britain w_tanoto (talk) 00:05, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done. I also modified the link to both Indonesian wiki article and French wiki article. Also modified several interwiki link in English Wiki to avoid double redirect in future --w_tanoto (talk) 10:17, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that - SatuSuro 10:54, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
and thanks to you all for responding to my proposal --w_tanoto (talk) 20:09, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo"? Ignatius Suharyo is now Jakarta's Arcbishop. But this doesn't make him a cardinal and lead Indonesian Catholic hierarchy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.77.237.162 (talk) 04:38, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Lead paragraph is misleading

edit

How can a group constituting "2.97 %" of the population be regarded as "predominant"? Perhaps because the group is relatively numerous, at over 7 million, due to the relatively huge population of Indonesia, the world's fourth most-populous country, this means that it is the second-largest Catholic population in Asia, but it doesn't make Indonesia a "second predominately-Catholic" country in Asia, as this would imply a nonexistent Catholic majority. Unless East Timor is now such, The Republic of the Phillipines is the sole predominately Catholic country in Asia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.104.151.106 (talk) 01:21, 1 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
