I suggest that we add an additional section to this article titled "in popular media" or something like that. In this section we would describe how the bridge was featured in both the book and the movie The Bridges of Madison County. Additional sources will have to be found, but that shouldn't be too hard. Any objections? (Lexandalf (talk) 17:37, 25 March 2012 (UTC))Reply

Sources

edit

The source "National Register Information System". National Register of Historic Places. National Park Service. July 9, 2010. has been added to this article on at least two occasions. I removed it once since I was unable to actually find information on that site regarding the bridge. There are some files for download on that site that I am unable to open on my computer. If there is another Wikipedian out there that can access them, please quote the material here for review. Until this can be done, I feel that this source should not be used since it seems not to be able to be put up to scrutiny. (Granted this might be my own incompitance that is causing this). I will leave the source for 24 hours to give time for response. If no response is made I will remove it. (Lexandalf (talk) 05:14, 20 March 2012 (UTC))Reply

  • I rewrote the entire article. Left off some material that appeared to be lifted from other pages with minimimal rewriting and limited historical value. The NRHP references are given. I had no trouble loading them, but one is 30 MB. The Federal Register pages can also be accessed at public libraries. There should be no doubt that the original bridge was NRHP and has been delisted. I renamed the article to go with the its NRHP name and the name it is called in comtemporary publications. The infobox material was based on the Elkman Inbox Generator for refnum 76000786, which should also be downloadable. Remove it all or rewrite it; this is Wikipedia. • Thank you for providing extra sources. I have gone over most of them and they seem to be good. However, if there is an issue with some of the material from this page being "lifted from other pages with minimimal rewriting and limited historical value", I think that is an issue. In previous edits, I simply found books that corroborated the facts that were already hear in the article. I modified a few of the facts to fit what I could verify. If rewriting is in order, I am happy to work on it, I am just not sure specifically what you mean. Also, this article is very short, if there are portions of it that have limited historical value, that should also be discussed for it may be that this article is not worth keeping in Wikipedia. I think that it does have a place in Wikipedia, but perhaps I am wrong. Other opinions are valued here. (Lexandalf (talk) 14:06, 20 March 2012 (UTC))Reply
      • In the material I did not use there was "It was used during filming of the feature film The Bridges of Madison County and is featured in the scenes where Francesca Johnson goes to meet Robert Kincaid and help him take photographs. From the Madisoncounty website, "It was used during filming of the feature film The Bridges of Madison County and is featured in the scenes where Francesca Johnson goes to meet Robert Kincaid and help him take photographs." I did not use this sentence. I can't do anymore without knowledge of the bridge or the NRHP nomination form. Thanks for looking at it again. KudzuVine (talk) 20:34, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
