This article has been "proposed for deletion" by Tim1357 because "Wikipedia is not a Dictionary; this entry would be better off in Wiktionary". I respectfully disagree. (Full disclosure: I created the entry). If all the entry had was a definition, I would agree that perhaps it does not belong in wikipedia. However, the entry contains a fledgling list of "chazantes", which I hope will be expanded, as well as some remarks of the history of the phenomenon (which I also hope will also be expanded). --PloniAlmoni (talk) 14:15, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree completely. The wording of the article made it look like a dictionary definition, but it seems that its more then that. It was a goof on my part, and thanks for being civil about disagreeing! :) , when I check new pages, I have to work very quickly, and I admittedly skim to save time. spelling

edit

The word I hear used in Israel and what seems grammatically correct is Chazanet (Cha-za'an-eet). As it is spelled now it reads Cha-za'an-teh. I'd like to change it unless I'm misunderstanding something. Joe407 (talk) 04:44, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I believe that the word comes from Yiddish (where it is indeed called "chazzante") rather than Hebrew.--PloniAlmoni (talk) 13:56, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'd like to support my position with http://www.he.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/580458 and http://www.kipa.co.il/kolech/show.asp?id=34941 and http://www.art-text.com/articles-728.htm Joe407 (talk) 11:58, 16 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Update. As such, I'm going to move this page to Chazaneet with alternate spellings. Joe407 (talk) 05:03, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't find the proofs compelling. The references you cited are all in modern Hebrew. I admit that in Hebrew the term is Chazaneet. However, I see no reason to prefer the modern Hebrew word to the Yiddish term, which was widely used in the mid 20th century (e.g. Sheindele di Chazante). --PloniAlmoni (talk) 11:09, 2 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK. You'll see that I've included both possibilities in the article. Would an article name of Chazante/Chazaneet be acceptable under WP naming convention? And then have redirects from both possibilities. Joe407 (talk) 09:39, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dual subject articles - naming question

edit

This article Chazante covers both Chazante and Chazaneet (two different job titles). What should the name of the article be? Joe407 (talk) 12:01, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

The term "chazaneet" doesn't have any reliable sources in the article as of now. So the title should remain and that term needs to be sourced. (I got 0 non-WP ghits for it, but it may be that one needs to search it in Hebrew, something I cannot do.) — ækTalk 03:07, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
