John White
editJohn White, vice-consul in Valparaiso, is a shadowy character, but has some basis in reality: see [1] for his posting there from 1823. There are sources that say he is the son of Lucy Nagle, making him the half-brother of Christopher Richard Nugent. His name is not given as one of the two others sent out to Chile in 1823.
One possibility is that "John White" is the assumed name of Henry William Rouse. In any case this page makes it clear enough that he was the son of "Graaf Bentinck Henri Guillaume", who will be the Dutch officer of the Royal Navy who went by the name William Bentinck, by a mistress called there Elizabeth Rouse. Apparently he was rumoured to be the son of George IV.[2]
If John White was a son of Lucy Nagle before her marriage to Nugent, then one way or another her husband Mr. White has gone missing. Charles Matthews (talk) 10:50, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
Now this page in Spanish makes circumstantial claims about White, his birthplace and marriages. Charles Matthews (talk) 11:26, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
