Ideology question

edit

Under "ideology" the party is attributed to socialism, however this is not evident from their "about us" section website. If Lutsenko were a member of SPU that does not transfer necessarily to Samooborona. How do we know their ideology, if any?--Riurik(discuss) 21:21, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

That was an assumption. You are right about the ideological classification. However from their declared goals and the fact that the civil movement laid the cornerstone to the creation of the electoral bloc I assumed that their ideologies have similarities. I agree that more analysis on that subject is required. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 19:38, 14 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Let's merge!!

edit

Let's merge with Yuriy Lutsenko's People's Self-Defense; they seem to be the same organization right? Or is this a special (noticeable) branch from the same organization? — Mariah-Yulia • Talk to me! 13:19, 9 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oppose. The Yuriy Lutsenko's People's Self-Defense is an electoral bloc that was organized based on the Civil Movement "People's Self-Defense" and couple of political parties: Forward Ukraine and Christian-Democratic Union. The fact is that a civil movement is formally an informal political party if such formulation makes any sense. A civil movement is a public organization and cannot participate in elections. A political party or an electoral bloc on the other hand are permitted to do so. A deputy that was elected to the Verkhovna Rada cannot represent more than one party and more than one electoral bloc, but he is allowed to participate in any civil movements. I included several references to clarify that issue, however they are mostly in Ukrainian. The references state that the Civil Movement "People's Self-Defense" preceded the creation of Yuriy Lutsenko's People's Self-Defense prior to the last parliamentary elections to the Verkhovna Rada and laid foundation to its creation. However later Lutsenko stated that he has intentions to liquidate the movement as it seems to be unnecessary. The similar trend can be traced with Yatseniuk who created his Front of Changes and Vyachslav Kyrylenko (former Our Ukraine deputy) who was elected the head of the deputy group For Ukraine (also a civil movement) within the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense electoral bloc in Verkhovna Rada. Please note that Kyrylenko is unaffiliated, but he is member of that aforementioned bloc that contains the For Ukraine deputy group. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 19:50, 14 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
