Clan societies
editJust as a notice to other editors - there seems to be a petty feud between the two North American clan societies. Wikipedia is not the place to fight those battles, so please don't use it as a tool to promote one side or the other, you'll just get yourself banned. I'd suggest that anyone from the respective societies have a good read of Wikipedia's policy on conflicts of interest - "Editors with COIs are strongly encouraged to declare their interests, both on their user pages and on the talk page of any article they edit...When editing causes disruption to the encyclopedia through violation of policies such as neutral point of view, what Wikipedia is not, and notability, accounts may be blocked. To whomever corrects and edits article content:
Right side of page does not correspond with wording in main article (on left side of page) regarding Sir John Christopher Montgomery Cunningham as newly recognized Clan Chief. Clan Cunningham has a chief and is no longer considered an armigerous entity. See insert below (from right side of article) as reference:
Cunningham
Clan member crest badge - Clan Cunningham.svg
Crest: Black Shakefork on white or silver with Rampant Coney Shield Bearers
Motto "Over Fork Over"
Glencairn Arms.jpg
Cunningham has no chief, and is an armigerous clan
Recommendation: Strike the above last line in order to correspond with wording in main article.
Thank you in advance for your volunteer work and attention to this recommendation.
Respectfully submitted, Albert McMurtry (Mac) Cunningham 3 February 2014
Origins
editThis is the sort of nonsense which brings Wikipedia into disrepute. Irvine a "capital" of "Scotland"??????????? For which kings???? At what period of Scottish history???????? The first paragraph is the effusion of misty eyed expatriates who are grasping at straws for an origin legend. Let us be clear - this is fake "history" and has no place on Wikipedia. Which moderator let this nonsense stand???? Now if the author had put 1159 for 1059 and specified Malcolm IV then there might be a basis, but actually the legend is to do with this Malcolm "saving" Malcolm III and Donalbane from Macbeth (so c1045). Over Fork Over???? Hmmm I can think of a variant. Oh dear... oh dear Freuchie (talk) 23:35, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
