Talk:Clifton, Greater Manchester

Latest comment: 7 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

i live in clifton...yay.

I went through the article today putting in internal links but didn't always remember to fill in the box saying what I'd done - sorry!!! The article is very interesting but seems to have a lot of the same information as the one on the Wet Earth Colliery. Would it be sensible to amalgamate the two?Richerman 14:36, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it would be at all sensible to merge the two articles. Clifton is not just the Wet Earth Colliery, it is also Clifton House, Clifton Country Park, Clifton Aqueduct, Clifton Viaduct, Clifton railway station.....the list goes on. The article is too long and too complex to merge into Clifton. If anything, what needs to happen is the coal mining section of this page needs to be moved into a separate article. The info on the WEC has been copied across from what I originally wrtote for the main WEC article, this only serves to confuse the Clifton article, Fletcher, Brindley et al were not from Clifton so shouldn't be included other than in passing in an article on Clifton. If anything that info should be removed and WEC left as a paragraph similar to the other pits mentioned and pointing to the main WEC article. Geotek 11:24, 7 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, on reflection I'd agree that would be the way forward. It just seems daft to me to have large chunks of text duplicated in two articles. Sorry, I cocked up the "talk" bit and got two discussions going Richerman 18:28, 7 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have removed this text and generally tidied up the page. Parrot of Doom 22:43, 7 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

General tidy up

edit

I've added a bit about Clifton railway station and Clifton Aqueduct with internal links, so the article should now point to the other Clifton articles which I hadn't realised were there. If there are any others I've missed could someone add them in? I've also put in a load of other internal links. I think the article now works much better as a link page for other articles on Clifton. Thanks to the Parrot for sorting out the Wet Earth section. Richerman 11:36, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

This article seems fairly detailed. Does it need to remain a stub? Parrot of Doom 14:51, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Greater Manchester County Council Arms.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
