Dimensions
editWorldCat records for 1947 to 1957 editions do not give two dimensions, afaik. For example, the cited 1957 record says "400 p. illus. 23 cm."
Our image (Front cover of 1977 Puffin edition) does not look distorted but the dimensions are unusual: tall and narrow. I think the bottom line says "Drawings by Robin Jacques", who illustrated the 4th ed., 1957.
If we retain that cover image (which we should replace if possible) then we should check its dimensions: confirm integrity of the image; check whether some illustrations have unusual dimensions. --P64 (talk) 20:29, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- I've replaced the cover image - now it is the 1957 hardback cover. Obviously the 1947 cover would be preferable, but the only one I have seen is in too bad a state to use. Robina Fox (talk) 16:54, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Good. For what it's worth, I like the spine and front cover images. This later edition isn't a bad selection, either, with a new illustrator whose work is mentioned in the article. --P64 (talk) 17:29, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Editions
editToday I have revisited this article and (mainly) replaced two External links to WorldCat library records by two complete references to the same (one for a copy of the first edition, illustrated by Hawkins; one for the first Jacques illustrated edition).
WorldCat shows no edition published outside the U.K., although it may have been issued under another title (most likely in the U.S.). WorldCat shows no translations, which may be expected for poetic material; also for collections of previously published stories.
I wonder how many of these stories have been issued in children's picture books. Skimming the 17 story titles and the 263 LCC records for books by WdlM —which must be exceptionally errorprone— here is the one matching LCC record that I noticed.
- "The Lord Fish" (first U.S. edition). Library of Congress Catalog Record.
The Lord Fish / Walter de la Mare ; illustrated by Patrick Benson. Published 1997 by Candlewick Press, the U.S. division of Walker Books.
"123 p" — Is that correct? If so, the book is not what I suppose. --P64 (talk) 01:25, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
