Establishing Notability

edit

So, what, exactly, do I need to do to establish notability?--Dudeman5685 (talk) 20:47, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

All the other parties listed on the International Communist Opposition page have pages for them.--Dudeman5685 (talk) 20:50, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

In a nutshell, provide references to significant coverage in multiple reliable sources. Take a look at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) for more specific details. Wikipedia:Reliable sources has info on what is and is not considered reliable.--RadioFan (talk) 21:47, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Qualified support: The entirety of the present article should be moved over to Lovestoneites since that is indeed the name by which this movement is known by most people. However there might be a place for a one-paragraph defining stub article under the present CPUSA (Opposition) label, telling the reader to find more information at Lovestoneites. —— Shakescene (talk) 21:23, 2 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support: In most of the historical literature i have encountered, the group is reffered to by this name. If you look at their own literature, you will see that the name reflected a lot about how the group defined themselves, as a faction within the CPUSA, an opposition within the CPUSA, independent Communists and finally a trade union league that was virtually anti-communist. Having the main title one of these names gives undue weight to just one of its incarnations. We should keep the other names as redirect pages (thats actully why I had trouble moving it the first time)--Dudeman5685 (talk) 21:33, 2 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. I get 21 post-1980 English-language Google Book hits for "Communist Party of the USA (Opposition)", 1,600 for "Lovestoneites". The current title is just one of several official names the group had, and was used only briefly. It refers to Stalin's now-forgotten purge of the Bukharin-led Right Opposition (not to Trotsky), so few modern readers will catch the meaning. Kauffner (talk) 10:03, 4 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - While I ordinarily dislike reducing movements to the name of a single individual (imagine, for example, the history of the United Farm Workers make into "Chavezites"), in this case the four organizational names in a short period of time combined with the common use of "Lovestoneites" in the literature makes a legitimate case here. There should remain a redirect for the current title, of course. Lovestoneites is apt to be the search term, for better or worse. Carrite (talk) 18:37, 4 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Pro forma COI declaration

I've got a book out now from the Dutch academic publisher Brill that I'll be listing in Further Reading. I just wanted to call attention to my real name and screen name so that the connection is clear. —Tim Davenport /// Carrite (talk) 04:53, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
