Development Rights

I thought there was a clause in the contract that the Penguins had to develop 2 acres of the 28 acre site per year or lose the development rights. Can anyone verify this?

From PGH post gazette:

He said the Penguins have been offered a $15 million credit as incentive to spur development around the arena, rather than leaving it as parking. He said officials have set a goal of developing 2.8 acres a year, with the whole area developed in 10 years. The Penguins would lose development rights to areas they don't complete each year.

Schedule

Does anyone know if there is a construction schedule yet?

Construction of the arena is expected to begin in the fall. Mr. Sawyer said keeping the project within the $290 million budget will be a "challenge" but he added he believes it can be done.

This tells me that all the site prep has to be done between then and now. Demolition has started already on the St. Epiphony campus. I'm told the parking lots will close at the end of april.

Pittsburgh Xplosion

Can someone provide a source that the Xplosion will be playing in the new arena? They do play games in the Mellon Arena, so it would make sense that they would make the move along with the Pens. CONSOL vs. Consol

The press makes errors in printing the names of businesses frequently. If CONSOL uses all caps, then the Penguins errored. The point is that the company uses CONSOL, and not Consol. I have to disagree with you there. The press release was the official press release from the Penguins, and other media sources have used "Consol Energy Center." http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08351/935400-61.stm

The only time the Penguins capitolize the whole word is when referring to the company, all arena references are lowercase (link). The Penguins main page for the arena does not capitolize it in prose, only in the logo which is not official typeset (link). The Post-Gazette never capitolizes the whole word regardless of what they are referring to (one, two). NHL.com is the same as Penguins.com (link). The Tribune-Review's website is currently having technical difficulties, but if I remember correctly they did not capitolize it either. Revenues

Won't the Penguins collect on most of the arena's revenue? By this I mean that they are responsible to book anyone who wants to rent the arena, and the Pens subsequently gain the profits from the event. This is something not mentioned in the article, but I thought I remembered hearing about it amongst all of the news last year. I am on the communications team for Consol Energy. I would like to suggest several edits/updates to the Consol Energy Wikipedia page. A lot of the information listed is outdated and therefore no longer accurate. Please see my suggested edits and sourcing below. Let me know if you have any questions.

First paragraph:

"As of 2011..." should be replaced with: As of 2013, Consol had 3 billion tons of proven reserves, mainly in northern and central Appalachia and produced nearly 29 million tons of coal in the same year. The company has natural gas reserves totaling 5.7 trillion cu. ft. as of 2013 and produced 172.4 billion cubic feet in that year. Through the different services, it employs 3,890 people.

History:

To be added: In 2012, Consol Energy won the rights to drill the Marcellus Shale on leased acres at the Pittsburgh International Airport. Consol entered into the public-private partnership, agreeing to pay 500 million dollars over the next twenty years. In partnership, the airport will receive 18 percent royalties with an additional 50 million dollar bonus. It is estimated that the project will bring the airport around 20 to 25 million dollars annually over the next 20 years. This revenue is to be used to offset the airports 91 million dollar annual budget, as well as support improvements to infrastructure and paying off airport debt, currently shouldered by taxpayers.(i) In August 2014, after a year of talks with the township, the Federal Aviation Commission, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Allegheny County, Consol began drilling its first well on airport property.(ii)

In 2013, Consol sold it’s subsidiary, Consolidation Coal Company, to Murray Energy Corporation (MEC). This deal, valued at 3.5 billion dollars, included all five of their longwall coal mines in West Virginia, as well as Consol’s River and Dock Operations, comprised of 21 tow-boats and 600 barges, as well as 2.4 billion dollars of Consol’s balance sheet liabilities. These liabilities include 2.1 billion dollars in postretirement benefit plans, 105 million dollars of workers compensation, 61 million dollars of coal workers’ pneumoconiosis, 13 million of long-term disabilities, and 149 million in environmental. With the deal Consol sold 1.1 billion tons of coal reserves, reflecting the trend of switching away from coal to focus on natural gas exploration and development.(iii) By selling the mines in conjuction with the liabilities, Consol cleared room in the balance sheet to further investment in Marcellus Shale.(iv)

Customers primarily include electric and steel mills in the U.S., but demand from European utilities has increased during the 2000s. Consol Energy was ranked number 434 on the Fortune 500 list in 2014.(v)

To be added: In December 2014, CONSOL announced its intent to pursue transactions that would result in changes to the company's organizational and management structure to better align the company to execute its strategy for its natural gas and coal operations in the Appalachian Basin. These anticipated transactions resulted in changes to the company's reportable segments effective for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2014. The Coal Division will now report the following segments: Pennsylvania Operations (Bailey, Enlow Fork, and Harvey mines), Virginia Operations (Buchanan Mine), and Other Operations (Miller Creek Complex). The E&P Division will now report the following segments: Marcellus Shale, Utica Shale, Coalbed Methane (CBM), and Other. (x)

Clean up the page

Greetings,

Not certain if this is only me, however I am recognizing a fair amount of non-needed information in this article. This includes the Transportation section (where there are also a number of grammatical errors), the WWE image with the underneath caption: "WWE referee Charles Robinson can be seen behind the ring in a blue hoodie", extra miscellaneous sporting events that are more/less irrelevant to the importance of the stadium, such as "The second game matched the top-level affiliates of the two Winter Classic teams (the Penguins and the Washington Capitals), the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Hershey Bears; the Bears won 1–0.", "The Penguins would go on to win the first playoff game by a score of 3–0. Marc-André Fleury had a 32 save shutout. The Penguins would go on to lose in seven games.[58]", "Goaltender Brent Johnson earned the win for the Penguins, making 22 saves.[57]", and "The stars of the game were awarded to Kennedy, Claude Giroux and Flyers rookie goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who made 29 of 31 saves in his NHL debut.[56]"

Correct me if I am wrong, but these small factoids simply seem to have little or nothing to do with the importance of the stadium, as Sergei Bobrovsky conceding two goals (and somehow becoming the third star in the process) does not attribute much to CONSOL Energy Center, nor will it provide any valuable information to readers, as this is the main goal of Wikipedia - to inform.

Again, if I am incorrect, correct me immediately. It simply appears to me that a few fans of Pittsburgh and/or its local sports teams created an article about their stadium, and decided to fill it with an overload of information and grammatical errors.
