ammunition plant

edit

The current article references a former ammunition plant: An important ammunition plant was near Cordova and was served by the railroad during World War II.

Where was this plant located, and what where the boundaries? Are there any portions of this facility left? I believe that the plant may have been situated at the current location of the Cordova Inductrial Park, but have no confirmation of this. Also, what was the name of this facility? Any idea what kinds of ammunition they produced? Any photos or other details? Thanks for any additional info! Dforce 18:50, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

if you are driving along macon road headed towards houston-levee, upon passing berryhill at the stop-light intersection you will approach a storage place on the right and Lenow Rd on the left. After you pass these there will be a dirt road (Rebel Rd.) and many low-elevation factory plants on the right, among these plants are traces of the old ammunitions plant still standing, I can't be exact though, but you are free to look around if drive along the road the follows Macon behind the plant (Cordova Park Rd.) They buried chemicals used in the ammunitions manufacturing process so this is why a large portion of the dusty cordova park has not been commercialized. I am glad if i could be of any help, i contributed to a cordova documentary that my 8th grade film teacher had us do, it's been so long but i will never forget what i learned in that class.. if you want to obtain a copy of the movie (if its still around, talk to a Mrs. Lutterloh or Mrs. Shands at the Middle School (which use to be the Optional school), i am sure they would be glad to help you. cordova's history has intrigued me ever since i was a little kid 15 years ago and if you have any more questions email me at faboone@students.southwest.tn.edu Faboone86 23:16, 28 January 2007 (UTC)anthonyReply

erroneous photo

Is this Cordova or Mud Island? We can verify from the history that it was made in November 2005.

The photo entitled "Cordova during an autumn afternoon" is of a row of houses on Mud Island, not in Cordova (the two areas of Memphis are nowhere near one another). So, it should probably be removed. Dotdotdotatsignapostrophe (talk) 19:07, 7 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I see that you removed it. Since your edit summary didn't give a reason for removal, I failed to recognize that you had commented about it on the talk page 2 days earlier, and I restored it as an unexplained deletion. (Hint: In the future, please use the WP:Edit summary to explain yourself.)
If this picture (at right) is truly from Mud Island, various documentation needs to be corrected, both here and at Wikimedia Commons. What's your basis for saying this is really on Mud Island? I agree that the buildings resemble some online photos of townhouses on Mud Island. The person who uploaded the photo has not contributed to Wikipedia in several years, but I'd like to get this sorted out with input from at least two people who know Memphis. I'll go send some invitations. --Orlady (talk) 17:20, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've posted queries about this photo on the uploader's talk page, at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tennessee, and on the talk page of another user who I believe lives in Memphis. --Orlady (talk) 17:30, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi everybody, some areas of Cordova have neat town houses similar to those on Mud Island. The street where the photo was taken is Chapel Park Boulevard in Cordova, Tennessee. Here is the Google street view link that shows exactly the houses that are in the photo in question. (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=cordova,+tennessee&ll=35.158102,-89.777475&spn=0.00074,0.00142&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&gl=us&t=h&z=20&layer=c&cbll=35.158025,-89.777542&panoid=XLdOhaYhK3R4FFkwxYMX5w&cbp=12,27.06,,0,0) Since the photo was taken in 2005 the trees have apparently grown a little but you can still tell that this is the row of town houses depicted in the photo. Have a great day, everybody, doxTxob \ talk 19:16, 11 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
That settles the matter pretty conclusively. Thanks, doxTxob! --Orlady (talk) 19:27, 11 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
