Birth date
editI've managed to find his birth certificate. One can't get to the certificate itself, but a search can return the name and the registered date. Do the following:
- Open the BDM website
- Enter "Mountford" (without the quotation marks, but with the final 'd') as the 'Family Name'
- Enter "05/10/1853" (without the quotation marks) as the 'Search From Date'
- Enter "05/10/1853" (without the quotation marks) as the 'Search To Date'
The birth notice in the Lyttelton Times matches that date. I conclude that the previous (unreferenced) birth year of 1852 was incorrect. Whilst his death notice talks about "aged 68", I've seen it many a time before that "died in his xth year" became "died aged x". Mountfort was in his 68th year when he died, aged 67.
