Czechia

edit

"Czechia" is not a term used in the English language. Could all of these articles be renamed to something meaningful in English? RickK 02:36, 9 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Czechia is a term used in the English language - that fact that you or most Google results (which of course are not representative and do not deal largely with history) do not know it, does not mean that it does not exist. It was e.g. used already in the 1980s in an official US government analysis of Czechoslovakia. It is also the only correct and at the same time understandable term in historical contexts - besides the older term Czech lands, which however is even less understandable for a non-Czech or non-historian. See Czech lands for details. Result: use either the term Czech lands or rename the articles completely, but I think that the present solution is the best one (in terms of correctness and understandability).

Merger

edit

If this article is to avoid being merged with History of Czechoslovakia (or deleted altogether) it would have to change its focus to history that largely affected only the Czech lands, and not Slovakia. Please not that History of Slovakia has a section on Czechoslovakia, but no leaf article on Slovakia during that time period. - TheMightyQuill 21:53, 22 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
