What to do with the results table

edit

I found the following note above the results table:

Please don't remove commented portions of the elimination chart until June when the season is over

I assume June was used as a shorthand for the end of the competition. In any case, I would be interested in seeing the 'Eliminated' notation eliminated from the table, since it can be clearly assumed from the table, and is also listed in the couples list above. However, I think that the Bottom Two notes should remain, at least in some form. Perhaps a fourth note could be added below the table and a superscript added next to the dance score preceding the bottom two pronouncement? Any comments? Rosenbluh 11:08, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The quoted note was more of a note for me, when the table structure was different. I can clean up the commented portions now. On pages such as The Amazing Race 10, colors are used to denote status, so that's a possibility to denote eliminations/bottom two. At my initiative, this is the first season to have an expanded table showing dances with the scores, so I expect other people to suggest improvements. Tinlinkin 20:40, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for building the table. The color idea is inventive, but not too useful for printouts or those with colorblindness. Maybe we could just add an asterisk to denote bottom-two results? Also, what do you think about eliminating the 'Elimination' notes? By the way I mistook your note about comments to mean the 'Bottom Two' and 'Elimination' notes, not actual comments which should have been more obvious to me. Rosenbluh 21:28, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Why were the dances in the table removed for no reason at all? Tinlinkin 01:35, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I was wondering the same thing. Rosenbluh 05:46, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Themes

edit

So what's the deal with themes? I have no idea how that word came to associate itself with this page, but that section really seems to me like a schedule of dances to perform. Note that there isn't even a Latin night or a strictly ballroom night. In fact, each night seems planned to show diverse dance styles and techniques (within the overall range of the show). I suggest calling the section 'Dances' or 'Dance schedule'. Comments? Rosenbluh 11:37, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's all right with me. I based the section on a similar section in American Idol (season 6). Tinlinkin 20:40, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Again, thanks for putting this section together. I'll change the heading. Rosenbluh 21:28, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cha3

edit

What's up with the cha cha? I've always heard of it with two chas despite the actual beat. I certainly respect the opinions of those more in the know, though. In any case, I see two problems with the representation of this cheeky component to DwtS.

  • There are two distinct wikipedia pages Cha-cha-cha and Cha-cha-cha (dance) that are not disambiguated in any obvious way
  • Though there are always three chas on this page, they sometimes are joined by hyphens and sometimes not. I don't care either way, really, but there ought to be some level of internal consistency.

Rosenbluh 11:43, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

When I originally inserted "cha-cha-cha", I used hyphens. Then anon users changed to Cha Cha, Cha Cha Cha, etc. I have observed it mentioned as "cha-cha-cha" more than "cha-cha" throughout the series, so that is what I prefer, but it doesn't matter to me. (You can check out the ABC online video if you want to confirm or if you disagree.) Tinlinkin 20:40, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I too am not too picky. I think I was more annoyed at having two wikipedia pages, than the hyphens. I just checked, and the ABC website refers to the dance as 'Cha Cha', so perhaps we should transition towards that spelling - it will also save space on the results table. Scoring Chart

edit

Why are the dances still listed when the season is already over? User:ScottAHudson

I don't understand what you're getting at. If the season is over, why should the dances remain? For one, a couple's score should be attributed to a dance, not simply to the week of competition. The articles should not serve to show only statistical data (numbers) without context. Tinlinkin 00:21, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
68.166.239.78 removed the dances without explanation and again without consensus here. I don't know if this is User:ScottAHudson, but it might be. Anyway, nobody still has given a reason why the dances should be removed. If the reason is "the season's over", that's not a good reasoning: why they should have been posted while the season is ongoing, then?
I need to explain clearer why I think the dances in the chart should still be there, even after the season is over:
  • The dances identify which dancer did what dance in a given week. If you look at week 2, what did Laila Ali dance to: the Quickstep or the Mambo? Without the dance notation, we would not know.
  • It also makes sense. American Idol seasons include the songs that are sung by each contestant. That certainly makes sense to include. Here, contestants dance particular dances and get particular scores. For the final round, all dancers got 30s. Why? They all danced their favorite dances well. What were their favorite dances? Wouldn't a reader want to know?
  • Why should it matter? Because if the chart only shows scores and not dances, there would be no context to show why the numbers are as they are. With only scores, I see that as an indiscriminate collection of statistics which might as well be removed. On the other hand, the dances and scores together give the best picture of the season and I don't see that as controversial.
I would like the rest of the seasons to be updated to include dances in the chart, but that has not been high on my priority list. And I won't be doing that until a few weeks from now. TLK'in 07:05, 26 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Could someone please revert the change that deleted the dances from the table? ScottAHudson 03:18, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why are couples written in some weird language?
