NPOV content
editI think a lot of information in the “modern practices” section is intentionally skewed against the practice of eating dogs and some parts of this article end up feeling racist because of it. Far too much weight is given to western animal rights groups, the country section should focus solely on opinions within nation in question. I don’t think it’s right to frame eating dog and cultures that eat dogs as being barbaric and savage. 97.126.85.208 (talk) 20:08, 24 June 2023 (UTC)
- I agree somewhat with your criticism, and definitely think that content sourced solely to advocacy groups should be removed. Please, be bold if you see anything too egregiously biased and remove it.
- The main issue here is, well, there are very few English-language reliable sources that don't frame eating dogs in a bad light, so obviously our content will be slanted somewhat. GnocchiFan (talk) 16:08, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Legality in the US
editThe article mentions that dog meat is still legal in the US, but the article Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act of 2018 states the ban was signed into law which suggests to me it was banned. Dog meat → Dog as food – The content of the article is more precisely regarding the actual consumption of dog meat rather than just dog meat itself. WP:CONSISTENT also applies here; see also Fish as food, Snails as food, Eggs as food, Octopus as food, Anchovies as food, etc. Yovt (talk) 14:39, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think this is a WP:TITLECON issue. We also have Turkey meat, Buffalo meat, Alligator meat, Crab meat, Goat meat, Horse meat, Whale meat, Monkey meat, Kangaroo meat, Iguana meat, Cat meat, etc. While not all of these are mammals, it seems like articles on red meat are more likely to be under "Foo meat" titles. - Oppose. A search for "as food" in titles is more relevant than the search provided in the nomination (which wasn't restricted to titles). Title search returns several "as food" redirects to "meat" articles. It's also worth looking at titles of articles linked in {{Meat}} There does appear to be some unstated logic in "as food" vs. "meat" titles (but it's not totally consistent). Marine mammals as food and bat as food are the only stand-alone articles for mammals "as food"/"meat". Meat can be understood as being muscle tissue. On one scale, non-muscle tissue excludes animal parts such as blood as food, brain as food or eggs as food. On another scale, meat as non-muscles excludes animals that are consumed in their entirety (jellyfish as food, arachnids as food (and probably bat as food as well)) Meat can also be understood as being non-mammalian muscle tissue (at least in Catholic fasting and some culinary contexts, hence perhaps fish as food and cod as food). "As food" strikes me as a more strained and unnatural way to distinguish animals from their use as "meat". Plantdrew (talk) 02:45, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
