Talk:Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010

Why did they change their vote from cloture to repeal?

edit

Do any WP:RS sources comment on why Richard Burr and John Ensign decided to change their vote in-between closure and repeal? -- Cirt (talk) 13:44, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

There are guesses, no solid facts. Tradition states that the leadership usually vote together on cloture votes, so that may explain Ensign's cloture vote. --haha169 (talk) 20:19, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Additional information Re UCMJ

edit

The statements regarding the status of article 125 of UCMJ are incomplete and somewhat misleading. Some of the second paragraph included here should probably be used for context, unless it's too distant from DADT Repeal. I'll leave it to someone better equipped to do so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodomy#United_States — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.53.220.164 (talk) 06:13, 26 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Criticism section

edit

I feel there should be given equal time to all the legitimate criticism of this bill. I tried to add one earlier today but it was almost immediately removed. In order to provide a balanced point of view, I feel this section should be restored. -68.185.90.190 (talk) 05:36, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Criticism sections are generally frowned upon, and individual criticism should be included within the prose of the article in its appropriate places, with proper citations from legitimate sources. --haha169 (talk) 18:52, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

While I agree with Haha169, the entry provided no hint that there was a policy debate, much less criticism. I've added a "Background'" section using excerpts from the far better discussion at DADT#Dadt debated and linked to that debate. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 16:37, 26 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

What did the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010" say?

edit

If that information is in this article, it is well hidden.

Does the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010" promote allowing homosexuals to serve in the military without condition?

Alternatively, does the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010" prohibit homosexuals from serving in the military unconditionally?

That's the first thing that people going to this article will want to know, and they will want it stated clearly. Readers of this article will not to comb through obscure language to extract this information. ---Dagme (talk) 00:33, 3 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

You have a point. I added just a line at the very top, to state in positive terms what the Act did, before describing the policy it undid. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 17:01, 3 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
