Something seems odd

The article states: "Originally paper, Dum Dums have recently begun using hollow plastic sticks in some lollipops. In addition the outside wrapping has changed from wax coated paper to a thin plastic similar to a candy bar wrapper."

I have never seen a Dum-Dums pop with anything other than a paper stick, and as far as I can tell the wrappers are still wax-coated paper (it tears like paper, fibers and all). There is nothing on the dumdumpops.com site or on the Spangler Candy Co. website that indicates plastic sticks or plastic wrappers on Dum-Dums. Update: From what I can tell, it's not Dum-Dum pops that have a plastic stick, but the Gum Pops made by the same company. I'm correcting the article to reflect this. --Doc (talk) 20:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Mystery Flavor

According to Unwrapped (IIRC), the mystery flavor comes from the candy manufacturers not clearing out the machines before starting the next batch. Source, and exactly what doesn't get cleared should be verified.NiX0n (talk) 15:33, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

The batches run continuously on the Dum Dum presses, and we don't have dedicated presses for each flavor. Each press handles 4 flavors of candy and we rotate through them. There is no 'clearing' done in between different flavors, so we just use the mystery wrap for the length of candy that has two different flavored batches in it, if that makes any sense. It would be good to put it back... but the question would be "put what back?"

Maybe something based on this version or one from around that time... but it would be good to get some sources.

Official & Correct Spelling!

Hello! Err, uh, I have a wrapper right in front of me. The spelling is, "Dum-Dums", but with a dot not an actual hyphen. Sorry, but I can't place dots up that high. I began this, thinking it was an actual hyphen, but I blinked, and now I see at long last, that it is indeed a dot. But anyway, the point is, for this article's sake, should there not be a hyphen in the name? In the "Talk" area, I see that only one person thus far as used a hyphen, while the others haven't. But until we can place a dot there like the wrapper has, I think we should use a hyphen until then. What say you? LeoStarDragon1 (talk) 03:14, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

The logo is on their website. I am not sure whether a hyphen is a better replacement for a dot than a space is. Anything which cannot be rendered with standard text often is omitted. If you want to move this article to put a hyphen then I would not object, but I do not feel strongly either way. Blue Rasberry (talk) 11:46, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

History - sending in wrappers for loot

I seem to remember as a kid every dum-dum wrapper having instructions on it where you could send in 'X' wrappers for a particular toy or whatever. Does anyone else remember this as well? If so, approximately when did this practice stop? Should this be added to the main article? BobTheMad (talk) 19:46, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Flavors

We have completely unsourced lists, including the claim that black cherry was discontinued in 1970, but can still be found at Party City. Well, clearly it is not still at Party City if it was discontinued nearly 50 years ago. However, absolutely none of it is sourced, so which half of that claim do you remove?

The answer is simple: If independent reliable sources do not discuss something, Wikipedia does not discuss something. I'm removing the unsourced, unencyclopedic lists. If you'd like to restore them, you will need to provide sources. - SummerPhD^v2.0 23:47, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
