- Comment. When I straw poled 6 "What links here", 5 were about the Battle, not the place. I agree Dunkirk, France is the most common place, but not neccessarily what people mean when they link to Dunkirk. Maybe this is due to interpretation. When an article says someone was evacuated from Dunkirk in WWII, I would link that the Battle of Dunkirk. --Commander Keane 01:15, September 13, 2005 (UTC)

"sometimes also known in English as Dunkerque" - bollocks!

"Dunkirk (French: Dunkerque), sometimes also known in English as Dunkerque, is a town and port in northern France"
And it is utter hogwash, so it is going to get rightly wiped.

- In English in the (fairly recent) past and even today, French spelling for geographical names in the Low Countries have been quite usual. Whether we like that or mot. Just open any English Historical atlas, like William Sheperds or Muirs. Gerard von Hebel (talk) 16:26, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
