Topic which should be addressed

edit
  • It is noted the the dispatcher was "rude" to Dusty's wife, causing her to "hang up." I do not believe the dispatcher intended such. In my opinion, she was (understandably) distressed and he was trying to calm her down in order to give her instructions as well as get more facts for the EMS already in route. It seemed to me that in her distressed state, she thought the dispatcher was finished and she wanted to be with her husband, and therefore hung up the phone.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.197.91.93 (talk) 01:48, 25 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • There is a grammatical error in the entry; Dusty was the sole survivor, not the soul survivor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.164.133.93 (talk) 06:39, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Where he was born and grew up (Texas I believe)
  • I read somewhere where he played football for West Texas State. He was the primary blocking fullback for (future Dolphin great) Mercury Morris.
  • There is no record of Dusty playing football at West Texas State

Nothing about his early life is addressed - the article only talks about wrestling or as Ted Turner calls it "rass-lynn" Hokeman 22:32, 12 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think he has 3 sons, or maybe Cody's other half brother, or maybe like a step brother, because there is someone who wrestles in NWE as Kevin Runnels and he says that he is Cody's bro and Dusty's son —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.113.39.210 (talk) 03:48, 28 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

He eventually began working with Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) in the Mid-Atlantic, which eventually purchased World Championship Wrestling (WCW), formerly Georgia Championship Wrestling. Aforementioned statement is incorrect. Jim Crocket Promotions never purchased World Championship Wrestling. Turner Broadcasting purchased Mid-Atlantic and later changed it to WCW.

There is another topic of concern. Dusty Rhodes is a 3 time NWA World Champion and not merely a one time champ as this wiki insists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 45.18.117.202 (talk) 19:17, 13 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Did Virgil [Dusty] ever live in Cleveland or Splendora, TX?

edit

I knew a Virgil Runnels when I was 13 (1963). Virgil's Uncle lived in either Cleveland or Splendora, TX. He visited the church I went to in Houston. This Virgil was a few years older than me. Can anyone verify if this was the same "Dusty Rhodes"?

Requested move

edit

Virgil Runnels, Jr.Dusty Rhodes – Seems to better comply with WP:NAME, he's been known as Dusty Rhodes his whole career, which is quite a long time. --JFred 06:12, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment: Mick Foley's autobiographies and interviews show that almost everyone refers to him as "Cactus," but I still don't think his page should be moved to "Cactus Jack." Tuckdogg 18:11, 1 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's hardly relevant, given that Foley has wrestled under his own name for the last six years, and wrestled as Mankind for four years before that. Runnels has always been known as Dusty Rhodes, except for his brief stint as the Midnight Rider. Moreover, he conducted his "real life" business as NWA/WCW booker under the name "Dusty Rhodes" - he used the name off camera in a professional and personal context. Discussion

edit

I just noticed that Dusty Rhodes is a disambiguation page, which means that if the page is moved, it will probably be moved to Dusty Rhodes (wrestler). Also, since he's listed on the disambiguation page, is a page move really necessary now? --JFred 18:33, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

From the opposing vote above, what's wrong with (wrestler)? -- JHunterJ 10:46, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Would you type in "(wrestler)" when searching for someone on here? I wouldn't. --Dubhagan 16:05, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Right. I wouldn't type in "Virgil Runnels, Jr." either though. That's what the redirections and disambiguation pages are for. The question is, what's wrong with (wrestler) that isn't wrong with (actor), (baseball player), (film), (novel), or any of the other widely used disambiguation suffixes? -- JHunterJ 17:04, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Just a personal opinion, but particularly so here because most, if not all, articles with "(wrestler)" can be titled differently. Unless you use middle names, there's really no way to differentiate between "Brad Daugherty (poker player)" and "Brad Daugherty (basketball)" That's just not the case with just about all wrestling articles, including this one. Tromboneguy0186 23:25, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't really matter to me, but would "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes work? Like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin? Calaschysm 22:59, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

That'd be fine by me. Tromboneguy0186 23:25, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I would object to that. The article title would be somewhat long and verging on pov. Suffixing an article title is not a big problem. McPhail 00:19, 1 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Runnels

edit

I know this isn't a forum, but I don't know where else to look, why are all the Rhodes called Runnels when only Goldust married Terri Runnels?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.229.169.189 (talk) 21:37, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

Runnels is their legal last name Terri's last name was only Runnels cos she married Goldust.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.72.233.105 (talk) 12:04, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rhodes is his stagename, while Runnels is his real last name. His sons also took his stagename as their last name in professional wrestling.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Ehammon1 (talkcontribs) 20:23, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Busting

edit

From the article: "pulled a spike out of his shoulder pad and jammed it in Rhodes' eye busting it wide open." Come on... if you guys are going to protect this article and not let me correct it, at least get the "busting it wide open" out of there, which sounds like it was written by a third grader. 69.215.147.150 (talk) 02:49, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

edit

on Kevin Nash's website, it mentions the OZ gimmick, and that Rhodes personally thought it was a great gimmick is this just Nash being bitter about getting saddled with something so ridiculous, or is it genuine? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.235.162.134 (talk) 23:26, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Abdominal Injury? Birthmark?

edit

What is that large, red splotch on Rhode's midsection? Is it an injury or a birthmark? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.80.60.230 (talk) 19:18, 8 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

JCP dismissal

edit

Dusty was not fired for blading on television, though it didn't help his standing in the company either. He remained with the company through January before resigning (though probably not entirely by choice). See the pertinent issues of the Observer for reference. Orphaned references in Dusty Rhodes (wrestler)

edit
Orphaned references

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Dusty Rhodes (wrestler)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Im watching an ROH interview with him and he says his birthday is Oct 11th, just curious where the 12th came from before I change it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SkaTroma (talkcontribs) 20:19, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Personal Life

edit

Dusty has another daughter, "Teil Runnels Gergel" per Dustin on Twitter.. @WWEGoldust. Is this considered reliable information? His Twitter is verified and he stated she is his sister. “@agentorange1983: @TeilMargaret congrats to you and @WWEGoldust with 2 children” [his response]- shes my sister" Posted December 10, 2011 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.184.130.37 (talk) 20:38, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Confusing Part

edit

This makes no sense:

"Rhodes was fired from Jim Crockett Promotions after Starrcade '88, because of a taboo on-screen bloodletting (laid down by the Turner Broadcasting System following their purchase of the company) during a November 26 altercation with the Road Warriors.[6] Furious with the interference, Rhodes booked an angle where Road Warrior Animal pulled a spike out of his shoulder pad and jammed it in Rhodes' eye busting it wide open.[6] Rhodes was then fired from WCW."

So according to this, Dusty was fired for a "taboo" bloodletting, so he got furious and booked an angle after he was fired that got him fired again???? Huh? And wasn't WCW and JCP two different entities?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.57.121 (talk) 07:55, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's sort of clear. If you're asking to add "The Midnight Rider" to the Nickname section of In Wrestling, no. It was a ring name, not a nickname. It's already in the infobox.
That whole section needs cleanup, if anyone's interested. InedibleHulk (talk) 00:39, 13 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Birthday

edit

Since there probably won't be many more changes to this page, now that he's passed, and there is still attention on it. Dusty's Twitter account, in his own words, says his birthday is October 11th, not October 12th. Someone please go fix that.

Pages get more action after a death. But yeah, that's what he seemed to try to say. Goldust is much clearer. InedibleHulk (talk) 15:58, 13 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rhodes NEVER played football at West Texas State. I challenge anyone to present confirmation that he played there.
