Too many Ed Smiths

With the merging of disambiguation pages that occurred with the March 29 changes to merge all Eddie, Edgar, Edward, Edwin, etc disambiguation pages, there aee now too many entries to search if a user wants to find their particular Ed Smith.

Sorting by subject would help, but what if some of these entries were never/rarely referred to as Ed? I'm not familiar with the guidelines to handle this. —Bagumba (talk) 16:59, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Also, entries were replicating across two and more of the pages. Placing them ALL on the same page avoids both problems.

Too many ... - Well, that's your POV. I doubt you'll be surprised to read that my POV is different. I'm not particularly fussed, but if you are in the mood, I'd be interested to read why you think there are "too many". There's the same number as there were before, but now you don't have to look at five different pages to find the one you're looking for. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 02:47, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I'm not saying there isnt a good reason for all the references on the page. All I'm saying is that I was redirected here and I found it difficult to find "my" Ed Smith. I've seen other disambig places sort by subject (e.g. politicians, musicians, athletes, etc). I'm not saying that is the solution, but I did want to point out the issue I had. —Bagumba (talk) 08:02, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Ed Smith → Edward Smith – Dab page for all people named Ed/Eddie/Edwin/Edward Smith. There are 45 entries on the page and yet only 11 refer to someone named Ed (the current title). There are 16 entries for Edward and, although that's not a majority, surely it would make sense to have the dab at the name most common of the names. Jenks24 (talk) 19:18, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

• Oppose, I agree with the IP. It seems this be an attempt to bunch all "Ed... Smith" names into one dab page, which is probably fine if a majority of them are commonly known by the short-form. Otherwise, a split would be better. Rennell435 (talk) 12:14, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
