Article title
editFrom the history of the article:
- 22:39, 24 May 2006 Nicolas993 (moved Edward Massey to Edward Massie: I have an original copy of "Ormerod, the History of Chester" and in it, "Massey" is spelt "Massie". The Massie's of Coddington spelt it "Massie".)
I am moving it back. It does not matter how Ormeron spelt the name in 1819, more recent reliable sources tend to use Massey. The two sources used in the article both spell his name "Massey" as does the DNB and the ODNB. -- PBS (talk) 16:37, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

User:Sir Watkyn Wikipedia is not the place to right great wrongs (WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS). To misquote Star Wars "Follow the sources Luke".
The older DNB cited here and the 21st century ODNB] both use Massey. There is no right and wrong spelling based on the use in primary sources, Wikipedia uses the spelling used in modern reliable sources see WP:RECOGNIZABLE.
So User:Sir Watkyn, I have reverted you change of name from "Edward Massey" to "Edward Massie" and removed the unsorced preachy sentence "The correct spelling of his name is and was 'Massie' not 'Massey' , as indicated throughout his life by his signature and the fact that the family at Coddington is and was Massie – the Masseys are a different branch of the family.". I suggest that you send an email to the ODNB explaining their error and when they update their biography then use that as a reliable source to update this article. But until that is done this article should follow the current usage in reliable sources. If you can find some sources that use "Edward Massie" then change the lead to read "Edward Massey (or Massie(footnote))-- PBS (talk) 16:27, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
- User:Sir Watkyn, I have reverted (diff) your revert of my revert. The first part for the reason given in the previous paragraph. The second because http://www.fitzwalter.com/afh/Massie/massiehist2.htm is not a Wikipedia reliable source. PBS (talk) 18:00, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
