Longitude

I'm not sure if being at W80°4' longitude would be the reason for the town's name, because that's not where it is. Eighty Four, Pennsylvania is at W80°8', several miles away. — Michael J 16:59, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

What was told why the EIGHTY FOUR is named as such.

While participating in the 100year anniversary (1884-1984)the one belief and it is a strong one, that the reason the place is named as a numeric, goes back to the days that mail was delivered via the train ( 1884) there was two mail stops known as SMITHFIELD A and SMITHFIELD B. The problem was that mail for the two stops was getting mixed up for each other. So, to resolve the problem they named the stop Eighty Four, for after the year 1884.

Could you provide an actual source for that, as being a "belief," even a strong one, is not sufficient, especially sine it contradicts the historical marker. --Beeblebrox (talk) 00:00, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Typo
