Ottoman sultans

edit

In this case the feminine ones. Please, I request editors kindly not to edit articles if you really are not familiar with the Ottoman names and titles. Trying to arrange some of these (female) sultan articles I have witnessed that gross mistakes have been made such as referring to the wife of an Emperor as "Valide Sultan (Mother of the Emperor)" in the context of her marriage. Not to mention quite synthetised edits to prove this or that certain Ottoman Sultan (Emperor) carried partially the same blood (I suppose) with the contributing WP editor; edits like "Her father's name was this or that (a muslim name) which might be used for converts to islam" and she was born in Trabzon, so she could be Greek; or she was born in this or that Balkan town she could be Albanian, Serbian etc... Please. I accept that we do not have many Turkish (or not) WPedians who are experts on the Ottoman court but we can make these articles much better if we leave our personal or national POVs outside. Edits like "born a Christian" do not help; as we know nobody is born a Christian or Muslim. People accept (or not) these (or other) religions later in life. --E4024 (talk) 13:34, 6 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

PROD and moves

edit

I removed the PROD because from what I can tell, this page was originally at this name but was moved around in a series of re-namings by User:Retrieverlove. It eventually ended up at I. Gülbahar Hatun. I've moved it back to the original name. I'll leave a note on the user's page as well but I'm tagging them on this page because I'd like to encourage them to use Wikipedia:Requested moves rather than moving articles around without a consensus. If a page has existed at a name for a while now, it's not exactly a good idea to move them around via various names. The reason is that we do have naming conventions here on Wikipedia and the norm is that if someone is the first of something, we use the I numeral after the name rather than before. We don't typically label things as "John Smith 1" either, although I kept that one as a possible redirect. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:03, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Her issue

edit

Gülbahar seems to be the name of two Ottoman concubines. Was Gülbahar Hatun really the mother of Bayezid II, or was it Sitti Mükrime Hatun?--Zoupan 08:52, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Origin

edit

The majority of sources say that she was Albanian. There are sources about her name and that she was the daughter of an Albanian Bey.--[[User:79.106.109.188] (talk) 18:56, 9. September 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.106.109.144 (talk)

Sultan or Hatun?

edit

There's been a bit of edit warring over this honorific. Comments? BusterD (talk) 20:41, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Albanian Princess Hypothesis

edit

One of the sources takes into account historian Dhimitër Shuteriqi's theory of Gülbahar having been a daughter of Albanian prince Gjergj Arianiti and princess Maria Muzaka. Which one of their daughters does he consider for this hypothesis? Is there more information about it? Udhakjx (talk) 16:15, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
