Vernal pools
editVernal pools are the same as ephemeral pools. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.60.121.13 (talk • contribs) 02:02, April 12, 2006
No, I think vernal pools are seasonally repeated and longer lasting. They are also formed by water table rise, not runoff accumulation. Also, what does the staying power of brands, other human institutions have to do with a Geology article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.23.77.189 (talk • contribs) 15:31, April 12, 2007
True true. Also about the Bible and stuff. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Swastik.harish (talk • contribs) 20:36, July 16, 2007
Structure of the article
editThis article is about the use of the word "Ephemeral". Some of its uses are related to geology, while others are not. Personally, I'd say that either Ephemeral (disambiguation) should be merged in here, with a section on each usage and a {{main|Article Name}} pointing at the full article, or this article should be replaced by the disambiguation page and articles created for each usage. The disambig entry pointing here is particularly bad, suggesting that this page is used only for geographical features. Jordan Brown (talk) 02:35, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think it it is fine the way it is. Maybe the use of the word ephemeral started in geology ?
- It's a mess the way it is. What about moving the Geographical and Biological sections to separate Set index (WP:SETINDEX) articles with links from here which would allow for further growth of the same concept for Physics, Astronomy, etc. Move the disambiguation entries to here. The Ephemeral artifacts should be merged into Ephemera with a link from here. The computer network port usage needs to become a link to the main article (which needs some help).SBaker43 (talk) 06:33, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- I think I agree with SBaker43. Right now, this article reads like a glorified disambiguation. It ought to be separated into separate pages for the geological and the biological uses of the term, and the rest should be moved into Ephemeral (disambiguation). Ephemeral → Ephemerality – This is an encyclopedia of things, not of adjectives. Generally, our articles are at noun titles (Anger rather than Angry, etc. --Relisted. Armbrust The Homunculus 06:50, 4 August 2014 (UTC) bd2412 T 04:00, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Haha, is this even a word? I'd sooner AFD it as a dicdef of "ephemeral". Red Slash 02:10, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- It's an abstract and difficult concept to write an encyclopedic article about, but the concept certainly exists, and I think that it is more than just a dicdef. bd2412 T 15:17, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- Well, the line between a WP:CONCEPTDAB and WP:DICDEF is sometimes blurred, but in my opinion this one is on the wrong (dictionary) side of it. I don't think that "ephemerality" is a concept worthy of encyclopedic coverage. However, even if it were successfully AfD-ed, it would have to be replaced with a WP:DAB page, as there are numerous valid entries in #Other uses section.
