Location of the railway

I have serious doubts about our description of the location of the railway. We say "The spur left just before the Apperley Viaduct over the River Aire and the Leeds & Liverpool Canal with the branch and associated sidings staying on the northern side of both watercourses save for a small section next to Thackley Hill which necessitated bridging both watercourses."

Looking at an old OS map (not sure of the year - 1947?) here there is what looks to be the railway immediately to the east of the Leeds Liverpool canal and to the west of the Aire running north from the Leeds-Bradford mainline, and we can see sidings between the northmost loops of the canal and river. By this calculation, the spur joins the mainline at 53.84367°N 1.71719°W / 53.84367; -1.71719. The bridges over the watercourse we can see, but they look to serve spurs off the 'main' sewage works railway, rather than being bridges necessary for this 'main' line.

So. My contention is that " the northern side of both watercourses save for a small section next to Thackley Hill" does not correspond to the map evidence, unless I'm misreading the map. And more generally, if my reading is correct, then the location description can be amended to add detail and clarity.

Location

Quite right. My error in geography. As the river an canal curve around Thackley hill, I thought it was easier to say north and south sides of each water course as they run in an east/west direction generally. The works did have many lines that ran north of both, but in balance perhaps something about bisecting the Aire? I will amend this later ( unless you wish to) as I am in the process of moving house and have no house internet (am using mobile data). However, in the main you are correct that the main part of the works was between the two watercourses, especially from 1950 onwards. Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 10:29, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
