Watchlist and correct "Disciple at..." and event naming

I've set up a watchlist for the entire World Aquatics Championships series of articles using the article naming convention as used by WikiProject Olympics. Due to the number of articles we're dealing with in the series, I've had to separate swimming from the other disciplines.

• Editions, diving, open water, synchro, water polo, templates (Raw list)
• Swimming (Raw list)

Hopefully they will be of use to editors of this series of articles, and will assist in creation of articles for the upcoming 2009 Championships. Let me know if you spot any errors. Yboy83 (talk) 19:23, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Mistake by Spain medal account

Hi everybody. I found a mistake, Spain has 7 gold medals, not 6:

• 2 in waterpolo: 1998 & 2001,
• 1 in syncro. swimming: 2009,
• 1 in open water: 2005 and
• 3 in swimming: Nina Zhivanevskaya in 2003, Martín López Zubero in 1994 and Martín López Zubero in 1991.

Why isn't this just "FINA World Championships"?

I believe the event/page name (and subsequent references to it) should be just "FINA World Championships", without the word "Aquatics" in it. This would match the nomenclature existing elsewhere (e.g. FIBA World Championship, FIFA World Cup, FIBT World Championships, World Curling Championships, Biathlon World Championships) where there is not a duplication in the sport reference ("FINA" and "Aquatics" are a duplication). This event is considered "the" World Champs for FINA. While FINA does also have discipline championships with the word "World" in them, there are not on par with this, and also never referred to as just "Worlds". "FINA World Championships" also matches the terminology that FINA, itself, uses. - Hooperswim (talk) 03:16, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Actually, the only discipline championships I could find are the FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m) and FINA World Junior Swimming Championships. But, I think this makes your statement even more appropriate. 82.141.64.25 (talk) 21:11, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Recommendation to move page to new name adopted by World Aquatics

As per World Aquatics constitution, this meet is now the World Aquatics Championships as of the 2023 Fukoka championships. Seeking others thoughts re: moving page from former title: FINA World Aquatics Championships. The organisation switched from FINA to World Aquatics following a December 2022 vote. FINA World Aquatics Championships → World Aquatics Championships – As recommended in the post above, I'm opening an actual RM for the recommendation.
FINA is now World Aquatics, and since it's rename, reporting on the event has adopted the new name as searching for FINA World Championships yeilds results for World Aquatics Championships. I'm not sure where the current title comes from as it seems to be a combination of the old governing body name and the new governing body name, when it was simply "FINA World Championships" beforehand if you look at older news articles. I guess it might be because the WP article for each event's iteration is at "YYYY World Aquatics Championships" for some reason (despite the news—and logos, when included—using "YYYY FINA World Championships"). Opened this RM since there was an older one above. This title actually retains the governing body now (after rebrand), addressing the only concern from the opposing !vote four years ago. -2pou (talk) 18:44, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Weak support, seems to somewhat meet WP:NAMECHANGES, there are sources omitting FINA,[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] Which was more easier than searching with the current title. GT may back up NAMECHANGES, although it shouldn't be relied on alone. If new sources, disproving me are found, please ping. The body has since dropped the "FINA" name compared to the 2019 discussion arguing to keep the body name in the title, so not the same situation, but avoiding the WP:OFFICIALNAMES argument.
