In use in 1964?
editArticle currently states railcar was retired in 1958, and only brought out of retirement once, in 1984. In this edit, user User:SecretName101 added category:Ferdinand Magellan Railcar to the photo shown of the railcar with President Lyndon B Johnson and First Lady Ladybird Johnson aboard in 1964. From a quick google I could neither confirm nor deny, but did see a fair number of other photos. I have to say it looks much like the same railcar to me. PBS TV story with multiple photos. Other opinions or information? -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:38, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
@User:Infrogmation This article says the train was named he "Lady Bird Special". Although it is not clear to me whether that was the name of the train route/service or the railcar itself. http://www.lbjlibrary.org/press/50th-anniversary-of-lady-bird-johnsons-1964-whistle-stop-tour SecretName101 (talk) 06:44, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
- Appears that this observation car was named the Queen Mary. https://www.neh.gov/humanities/2013/mayjune/feature/lady-bird-special SecretName101 (talk) 06:49, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
- That is correct (and the picture is clearly not the Magellan). The article you link has the name right, altho most of the other history it gives is bogus. Queen Mary was built by Pullman in 1925 for the Lehigh Valley, transferred to Wabash in 1945, to PRR in 1950, and sold out-of-service (presumably to a private owner) in 1956. At some point after the Lady Bird tour, but before 1970 it was trucked to Wayne NJ and built into a restaurant; the Queen Mary and attached building existed into the early 2000's but have since been demolished. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:589:300:C7C0:6D72:F293:D720:78E0 (talk) 21:06, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
