I added a line about the song In by Horrorshow, which features a sample of Nathan Fillion as Mal. I don't have any references for it beyond the song simply existing. Would a reference link to the song on youtube be a valid reference or would that be against WP:PROMO Kaotac (talk) 01:54, 9 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
The YouTube link would not be valid because it's a self-reference. That piece of information is fairly trivial so you'd need reliable third-party sources that talk about it to establish its notability; otherwise it's just trivia. Drovethrughosts (talk) 13:09, 9 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Also for us to claim that the song is using a sample of Mal, would be original research if we're just listening to it and saying "yup, that's a Firefly sample." We'd need a third party reference to back that up. And even then, I'm going to be honest, a minor sample in a song isn't exactly anything significant to be in such a section, it's trivial. I deleted that paragraph. I hate to be that guy but I think it's justified in this case.
First of all, the link was dead. Secondly, it's needlessly inflammatory to include every person's moral objection to a franchise. Sometimes there is a well-documented controversy that warrants inclusion, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
If I'm wrong, and there is something notable about Firefly's racial makeup, then surely the deleted material can be replaced with something better. There are Asian American anti-racism groups that regularly screen media for Asian representation, maybe they can provide a more nuanced take on a 20-year-old series that was canceled before half a season? 2603:7081:1603:A300:F12B:7FA3:29AF:8D5E (talk) 01:27, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Jayne says "damn yokels, can't even tell a transport ship ain't got no guns on it". A freighter transports goods and materials, a transport is more versatile and can transport other things such as passengers, which the Firefly class is. I've never come across a source that describes the Serenity, or Firefly class, as a freighter. Ultimately it's down to reliable sources, unless we have a reliable source we can quote, lets not subclassify the ship. Canterbury Tailtalk20:27, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
