Useful addition
editIt would be useful if someone could find the first time a black man was allowed to kiss a white woman on American TV. We never seem to hear anyone talk about this. I recall reading that (on American TV at least), it didn't happen until some soap opera in the late '70s (and that of course leaves open the question of when this was first allowed to happen in prime time). Anyone know anything about this? Did the Willises ever kiss on The Jeffersons? I don't seem to remember them doing so. Daniel Case (talk) 15:38, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- Well for the UK, the so-far earliest known one was June 1962, with black actor Lloyd Reckord and white actress Elizabeth MacLennan. Not sure about the US. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.149.64.146 (talk) 09:03, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
Photo of the kiss from You in Your Small Corner
editCould someone upload the photo in The Guardian of the kiss in You in Your Small Corner, please? I'm sure it will be covered by fair use.

Image review
edit- File:Firstkissontv.jpg -- please strengthen fair-use-rationale on image page, better example of point-by-point argumentation at File:BenoistSupergirl.jpg.
- File:Plato's Stepchildren kiss.jpg -- no image fair use rationale given for this article. Also, please strengthen fair-use-rationale on image page, better example of point-by-point argumentation at File:BenoistSupergirl.jpg.
Both images have unaddressed issues, as suggested, above. — Cirt (talk) 13:30, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
- Cirt - I'm on a shaky internet connection at the moment, so was not able to duplicate the Supergirl text, but I did - I think strengthen the fair use rationale on both images. LMK if this is not sufficient and I can continue to improve it on Monday. LavaBaron (talk) 22:02, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Azealia911 and I'll be reviewing this good article nomination. I'll be posting my review soon. Azealia911 talk 13:06, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
Lead
edit- "The first interracial kiss on television was the first time two persons of different races were broadcast kissing on television." is simply saying the same thing in re-worded phrases right next to one another, try "The first interracial kiss on television is a much debated topic concerning who the first two persons of different races to kiss on television were.".
- Add a comma after "2015".
- "was uncovered which was broadcast in June 1962.[1]" → "was uncovered, which was first broadcast in June 1962."
- You don't need to source things in the lead which are later sourced in the prose, so reference one can be removed from here.
I Love Lucy
edit- Link I Love Lucy during its first occurrence in the section.
- Link Caucasian.
- "to a race, and Arnaz was usually" → "to a race. Arnaz was usually"
You in Your Small Corner and Hot Summer Night
edit- Add a comma after "1962".
- Remove the commas after "Corner" and "Reckford".
- Italicize Play of the Week.
- "In the play there is shown a kiss between" → "During the play, a kiss takes place between"
- Link YouTube.
- Add a comma after Ted Willis.
Emergency Ward 10
edit- Link watershed, remove the quotation marks surrounding it.
- "done prior" → "conducted prior"
Star Trek and rival American claims
edit- I think it would be more beneficial to rename this section simply "American television", as it does primarily cover Star Trek, but throughout discusses the first kiss on American television.
- Merge the first and the second paragraphs, there's no need to split after just one sentence.
References
edit- Some MoS:DASH violations in reference titles.
- Keep one date presentation concurrent through the entire article, DMY seems to be the one used most often, so convert dates in references 4 & 5 to that format.
External links
edit- Please capitalise the 'c' in 'Clip'.
- Add full stops to the external link titles.
- Bonus points if you pander to my OCD and alphabetize the categories.
Suggestion
editThis article is very brief, there's no debate about it. While I wouldn't lose any sleep over passing a short article as GA, it would be easier if there was more substance within the prose. Would it be possible to encompass a section on how these kisses were received in terms of broadcaster pressure, audience reaction / complaints and such?

- Forgive if I'm doing this wrong. In The Wild Wild West, James T. West (Robert Conrad) and Princess Ching Ling (Pilar Seurat), shared multiple white and Asian interracial kisses in "The Night the Dragon Screamed", aired 1966 Jan 14. West also shared multiple white and Asian interracial kisses with Reiko O'Hara (Irene Tsu) in "The Night of the Samurai", aired 1967 Oct 13. Both of those pre-date Star Trek's 1968 episode "Plato's Stepchildren" on American TV. While you can see this on the show's DVDs or the episodes themselves when they're posted on YouTube, I do not have secondary source. If someone knows how to add this info to the main article, please do.

- Pass/Fail:
The article has some good content but it is very small and I was surprised to find that it was a GA. If it were a current GA nominee, I would quick fail it. Size and sourcing are both major concerns. There are some unreliable sources (#4 - YouTube, #10 - IMDb) and not enough sources talking about interracial kisses or race and television, rather just about specific shows. It's very much not clear that Hot Summer Night really was the first televised interracial kiss and lead sentences like "Competing claims have also been made in favour of I Love Lucy" are not sourced or discussed later in the article.
Content is also an issue: there's no talk of how reception was to the interracial kisses at the time, or how it is seen today. There's no mention of countries other than the UK or US. There's no broader historical context of race relations in the UK or U.S. at the time, or what the constructs of race even were at the time. Overall the article is perhaps C class but certainly not at GA standards. I will leave this review open for seven days and improvements would be much appreciated, but there is a lot of work to be done on the article. — Bilorv (he/him) (talk) 22:48, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
- Bilorv, it has been more than 7 days. Could you update/close your review? --MrClog (talk) 13:42, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry, completely forgot about this one. Only a single edit has been made to the page since the GAR was opened and it fixed a typo. There are still serious issues in the article which mean it fails multiple GA criteria, and I am thus delisting from GA. — Bilorv (he/him) (talk) 15:04, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
Hawaii Five-O
editI'm not sure if this is worth an honorable mentions, but Jack Lord and Nancy Kwan kissed several times in the pilot episode "Cocoon" of Hawaii Five-O. This originally aired September 20, 1968, more than two months before "Plato's Stepchildren". Apparently by that time the White/Asian barrier was already broken because I don't remember hearing about any controversy surrounding it. --RDBury (talk) 18:01, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, but the 1959 episode of 'Sea Hunt' was a white/Asian kiss that predates 'Hawaii Five-0' by a lot. Bkatcher (talk) 18:07, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
