Relations with Australia
editThere is a long history of Iranian - Australian relations, this is simply not mentioned anywhere, due to my massive inexperience I am unable to add it to the Asia table, while there is nothing special about the relationship it has and does exist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.220.22.172 (talk) 13:34, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Since 2012 these have been discussed at Australia–Iran relations. Klbrain (talk) 16:06, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
Relations with UK
editThe long history of sour relations with the UK could be expanded upon. I'll make a start in a while... Seabhcán 11:02, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
I think this page should be cleaned up, mostly in the 1980-1988 section. It is one sided against Iran.
Iran-North Korea relations
editCould this be written about in detail? I'm sure there is some form of diplomacy between the two. Thanks. Fil-mex91 02:09, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Exporting Islam
editThere is an AfD discussion currently in progress for the Iran's foreign policy article. That article is a mess and probably should be deleted but I think the topic is encyclopedic and deserves to be included in Wikipedia in some fashion. I don't think the topic is adequately covered here although it could be and maybe should be. That is certainly one of the recommendations that has been mentioned in the AFD debate.
I fully recognize that I am not very knowledgeable about this area and that, being an American, I may have a biased view.
Nonetheless, here are some questions to consider
- Is "exporting Islam" a major component of Iran's foreign policy? I think it is but I'm willing to be enlightened if I'm wrong.
- Is Iran unique among Arab/Islamic nations in promoting the export of Islam? I think it is not but I can't name another country that puts so much emphasis on it.
- Does the topic of "exporting Islam" deserve an article of its own or should it just be a section in this article?
- Are we talking about "exporting Islam" in general or are we talking about "exporting the Shiite version of Islam" in particular?
Your thoughts on these questions are welcomed at the AFD discussion page .

I think those questions can be answered when the page is further cleaned up.Wikiedebs (talk) 18:51, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
Removing Relic
editI am removing "See also: Iran's Islamic foreign policy" from the beginning of the History section, since this goes back to the current page. It used to be a unique article, but now is a redirect to this article, so the link is a relic. The Behnam 05:18, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
See also section
editLets not clutter that section up, all the relations are listed in the template already, so I removed them.Hajji Piruz 13:33, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Original research mixed with NPOV
editI'm going to remove this sentence from the bottom point in the "Current Disputes" section;
"Much of the present chaos present in Iraq could have been averted had the Administration taken up this "Grand Bargain."
While I don't disagree with it, it cannot actually be proven, as it's only an opinion. However if you could quote a political correspondent or something saying it, then we could stick it in, as their opinion. Ryan4314 05:27, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Sticking to facts
editThe sentence
- Diplomatic contacts with developing and non-aligned countries, as part of an effort to build trade and political support, now that the US has become an enemy rather than an ally.
was replaced with
- Diplomatic contacts with developing and non-aligned countries, as part of an effort to build trade and political support, now that it has lost its pre-revolutionary US backing.
I think imposition of sanctions and serious war-planning against Iran constitute a bit more than loss of "backing" --BoogaLouie 15:43, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- LOL dude calm down, your edit wasn't "bowderized or whitewashed", it's just that "enemy" is a strong word with lots of implications. Your re-edit to "adversary" is far more appropriate for the article. And for the clarity of anyone else reading this, the sentence wasn't "replaced" it was "reverted back" to it's original form that has existed since November 15, 2004. Ryan4314 18:47, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Speaking of sticking to the facts, the part where the article says the US and Germany provided Iraq with chemical weapons definitely needs a citation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.197.3.154 (talk) 19:25, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
The USSR?
editAnyone know anything about post-Islamic Revolution Iran's relations with the Soviets? That isn't in the article already? BillMasen (talk) 18:18, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
From what I know, post-Islamic Revolution Iran did not like the Soviets. If that isn't in the article, I sure will add it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiedebs (talk • contribs) 18:55, 6 May 2017 (UTC)

Iran's reaction to Israel's aggression in Gaza
editI'd like to mention Iran's response to contemporary events, specifically, to Israel's attack on Gaza. Here is the text I would like to add.
Iranian officials have condemned "international inaction" and "bias toward Israel". Saaed Jalili, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, on Sunday (4 Jan), called Gaza "a scene of disgrace for those who claim to be confronting terrorism," He said that these unnamed powers "are not only keeping quiet vis-a-vis the Zionist terrorism, they are actually confirming it", and he called on all countries to stop Israel's "war machine."[1]
Editors at the Gaza Assault "Reactions" section have removed the information because it doesn't fit the extremely concise format they seek to impose on the material. Apparently, the aim there is to present as little reaction as possible. Where, then, can lengthier reactions be posted?
I propose adding a section to this article where we could report Iran's views on contemporary issues -- on the war against Iraq, on the 2006 war against Lebanon, on the current war against Gaza, on terrorism, etc.. NonZionist (talk) 09:16, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Rtnews template
editI've removed the Russia Today news template from the page, as it had raised concern because it pointed to a single trending news page, rather than a selection of trend pages, and after discussion in the appropriate places, it's easier to remove it than it is to add lots of other trend pages, as I don't know of any (don't have time to look). If there are any comments, concerns, or suggestions please reply on my talkpage, as I don't watch this page. Penyulap ☏ 02:21, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Merge with Allies of Iran
editNo evidence that the topic of Allies of Iran is substantially different than this article.—SpanishSnake (talk) 11:50, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support merge. The concept of what does and doesn't constitute an ally also suggest WP:POV; I think that it makes sense to just list the relationships in a more neutral way. Klbrain (talk) 12:26, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Lack of a map
editWhy there is no map of the world to show those foreign relations like other countries have? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:A040:19B:214D:99C1:5A9C:F320:597E (talk) 23:19, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Saudi Arabia

Incorrect Info Regarding Iranian-Egyptian Relations
editThis article says "Diplomatic relations [between Iran and Egypt were] severed 30 April 1979", but the article on Egypt–Iran relations states diplomatic relations were re-established in 2012. I think the field may need to be updated, as it seems to be currently incorrect. Avereo (talk) 02:29, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
