Foundation Day → Western Australia Day?

edit

I've moved this from WT:WikiProject Western Australia#Foundation Day → Western Australia Day? Mitch Ames (talk) 09:31, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

[1] Rename Foundation Day (Western Australia) to Western Australia Day, or keep as is, or wait a while? IA 09:12, 10 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

rename its passed as law, signed ff by the governor, but foundation day stay as redirect and the ifo on foundation day should ultimately become a section ion the day Gnangarra 04:34, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Is it the common name though? Hack (talk) 05:14, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think the common name for most people* is "oh is there a public holiday next week/month, what's it for and why is it a week before the rest/most of Australia has one"
*other than those who go to the Foundation Day Derby. Carn South! The-Pope (talk) 05:21, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I am guessing not yet, but in my opinion moving the article (leaving the redirect of course) upon the official renaming is common sense.-- kelapstick(bainuu) 05:20, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
maybe - but a good collection of redirects is never enough considering the potential for some to get names confused/mixed up despite what the gov or the others get up to SatuSuro 11:02, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

WP:BOLDly moved the page, as no one's really opposing and it'd get moved eventually, anyway. IA 13:24, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

One further note: in terms of the football I'm going with Foundation Day for now in deference to the WAFL and the clubs involved (they can call it what they like, as far as I'm concerned). IA 13:36, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Date format on parliament website

  Resolved

At the risk of being a bit offtopic for a Wikipedia talk page ...

I added the reference to the parliament website for the bill, but I notice that in my browser (Firefox 11.0 on Windows XP SP2) the Progress dates appear as mm/dd/yyyy, ie "back-to-front" for Australians. (My PC's regional date display setting is currently yyyy-mm-dd, but I get the same problem if I set it to dd-mm-yyyy.) I've reported the problem here; the IT people say it appears correct for them, but have asked for more info to help track the problem down. I've provided browser details etc, but if anyone else has the same problem (dates displayed mm/dd/yyyy) could they please also report the problems, with browser details, to the Feedback page. This may help resolve the problem - which will help all the Australians who read our Wikipedia article and want to check the refs! Feel free to mention my name, ie that you're reporting the same problem as I did on 11 April. Thanks, Mitch Ames (talk) 12:07, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Never mind, it's fixed now. My Firefox was configured (under Tools, Options, Languages) to display English/US in preference to English or English/Australian - probably because originally I downloaded the US version (many versions ago, when it was probably the only version available). Once I added English/Australian and listed that first, the page displays correctly. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:48, 13 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
