Irrelevant information
editThis passage "Most viewers in Canada have access to at least one U.S.-based Fox affiliate, either over-the-air or through a pay television provider, although Fox's National Football League telecasts and most of its prime time programming are subject to simultaneous substitution regulations for cable and satellite providers imposed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to protect rights held by domestically based networks." is neither sourced nor relevant to an American domestic television network, furthermore it's neither sourced, nor does the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission have any oversight over the Fox Network. It should either be sourced or deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.240.231.252 (talk) 04:13, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- Restored, do not remove; the CRTC oversees the carriage of all over-the-air signals and can assert simultaneous substitution of advertising to protect Canadian advertisers on stations outside Canada, and yeah...radio waves aren't usually stopped by an imaginary construct like a national border. Next time you want to remove something, take some time to search around for basic known information and use common sense. Nate • (chatter) 00:52, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Fox Broadcasting Company
editI check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Fox Broadcasting Company's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Fox Broadcasting Company → Fox (American TV network) – Per WP:NCDAB and WP:COMMONNAME. Although the article titles guideline does prefer natural disambiguation over others, it also states that the natural disambiguation must be "unambiguous, commonly used, and clear". "Fox Broadcasting Company" fails the "commonly used" criteria, as the network is referred to on-air and almost-exclusively by reliable sources as simply "Fox" rather than by this formal name. While there has been an increased use of "Fox Entertainment" since the Disney sale, this actually refers to a parent division encompassing Fox and its new in-house entertainment operations since the sale. See also the rejected move of Amazon (company) to its formal name Amazon.com, Inc., as "Amazon" is overwhelmingly the name used by reliable sources (contrast Apple Inc., which actually does have enough use to support the use of this name). ViperSnake151 Talk 18:46, 14 February 2020 (UTC)—Relisted. – Ammarpad (talk) 06:12, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose. My stance has not really changed since the rejected 2014 RM despite the Disney sale. "(American TV network)" is still ambiguous because there is at least another "Fox Network" in the United States, either broadcast network or cable network, that is as notable and gets relatively amount of page views: Fox News. Note the page view comparison. And when I do a google search of fox network I start to get a mixture of results pertaining to the various Fox networks, not an overwhelming result of the main Fox broadcast network. In addition, a straight Google News search of "fox network" also gets various news articles published by Fox News and Fox Business. So no, there should be no "primary topic" that should get the "(American TV network)" disambiguation in this case, unlike the cable network TNT (American TV network). (And for these same reasons, I would prefer that the Fox (TV channel) redirect be converted to a disambiguation page). And lastly, the full natural disambiguation is consistent with the other major U.S. broadcast network article that requires disambiguation, American Broadcasting Company. Zzyzx11 (talk) 00:21, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
- Comment. One difference is that everybody calls American Broadcasting Company ABC, whereas this network we don't call it FBC; we call it Fox. Thus the lack of consistency is not Wikipedia's original research. Georgia guy (talk) 02:29, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support - Firstly, to avoid WP:ASTONISH, as this network is overwhelmingly referred to as as "Fox". Zzyzx11's concern is overblown, as there is very little chance of confusion between it and Fox News - certainly no greater chance than many other disambiguation instances for many other topics. We already have hatnotes in place to address that potential. -- Netoholic @ 03:59, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

- Oppose. WP:BROKE. Shhhhwwww!! (talk) 17:31, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- Support Per WP:COMMONNAME, as the most entries I see in my search refer to it as only "Fox". Jovanmilic97 (talk) 21:09, 20 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NATDAB. Of course this needs to be disambiguated, and using the full name allows us to avoid the parenthetical. oknazevad (talk) 00:11, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose – a solution looking for a problem, which will only make the current situation worse (e.g. contra-WP:NATURALDIS). However, a Fox (American TV network) redirect should definitely be created, regardless. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 04:06, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
- Support - though this is just ceremonial in nature as there is no real chance of this moving. Per WP:COMMONNAME as almost all, if not really all, of the sources just call this "FOX". You will get search results for the full name, but in those articles, no one is actually using the full name. With any other article this would have been a no-brainer, but somehow, the US broadcasting networks are always problematic. --Gonnym (talk) 09:50, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Unreal7 (talk) 17:38, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose. We have a habit of fetishising WP:COMMONNAME to the point of making articles harder to read, distinguish and find. The proposed change, a solution desperately searching for a problem, doesn’t help anybody but does add yet another sprig of shrubbery for our readers to wade through. ◦ Trey Maturin 01:52, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- Support Trey makes a claim he can’t back up. I don’t see what makes it harder to find…--Duroq145 (talk) 15:40, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
