If he was from les Sables d'Olonne he wouldn't be l'Ollonais, he'd be l'Olonnais (meaning the man from Olonne).

Good point. However, both ways of spelling it seem to be in usage [1][2] so I suppose it doesn't make any difference.--Domitius 10:29, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

He captured two Spanish (men), killed one, and then warned the "rest"? Was it two Spanish, or more?

L'Ollonais

edit

Nearly every primary source regarding him that I have read refers to him as L'Ollonais, including Exquemelin. The other spelling I have seen is Lolonois. Exquemelin even spells Les Sables d'Ollone, with two L's. So it is unclear. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.91.12.212 (talk) 22:01, 26 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Eight?

edit

"Despite the payment of the ransom (20,000 pieces of eight and five hundred cattle), l'Olonnais continued to ransack the city acquiring a total of 260,000 pieces of eight, gems, silverware, silks as well as a number of slaves."

What are "Eight"? It's mentioned twice in this paragraph so I guess it's no typo? Might maybe be a good idea for a link, if possible. --92.220.67.205 (talk) 16:50, 17 August 2018 (UTC) pieces of eight: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/pieces-of-eight — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.13.117.114 (talk) 08:23, 26 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
