Name Change?
editCan anyone confirm or deny that Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science has changed its name to Samueli School of Engineering? The website and its copyright seems to use this new name, but it seems like a demotion to remove the first name and to remove applied sciences, so it would be great to get some confirmation if the name should be changed here as well.
Can neither confirm nor deny. The website seems to market the school as "UCLA Samueli" and "UCLA Samueli School of Engineering"; however, it's acronym remains SEAS and HSSEAS which implies that "Applied Science" and "Henry" is still part of the name. The full name is also used at Commencement in June, so I believe it remains with the same name. StatsJunkie (talk) 21:23, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
UCI Engineering School
editUC Irvine's Henry Samueli School of Engineering doesn't have "and Applied Science". They sometimes refer the school as Henry Samueli School of Engineering at UC Irvine. Ucla90024 (talk) 07:55, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Engineering degree
editThere was a time, 40 years ago, when BS. engineers got a non-specialized degree from the School of Engineering and Applied Science; everyone had to build a bridge (out of balsa wood) which had to support many times its own weight. Now, of course, you get a BSEE etc. Is it worthwhile mentioning this? --Ancheta Wis (talk) 14:41, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- I believe the Faculty Executive Committee (FEC) voted to eliminate this degree program as no students had enrolled in it for quite some time.
- I think adding a mention of this degree and the final project would be a useful addition as part of the history of the program, if a citation/reference can be found. StatsJunkie (talk) 21:19, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
proposed merge - UCLA Electrical Engineering
editThe individual departments have not been shown to be more notable than other individual departments of the same subject. Unless there is some substantial evidence of this from 3rd party independent reliable published sources, print or online (but not blogs or press releases, or material based on press releases), they should be merged into here. Merely having a half dozen or so members of the National Academy is probably not a unique accomplishment. DGG (talk) 18:43, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
- Agree. It should be removed. Ucla90024 (talk) 17:42, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Birthplace of the Internet
edit- The Institute of Electrical and Electronics (IEEE) designated UCLA's Engineering school as the "Birthplace of the Internet, 1969". SRI was given an "Inception of the ARPANET, 1969" commemorative plaque. The IEEE plaque at UCLA commemorating it as the birthplace of the internet Socalphoto (talk) 06:40, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
