The result of the move request was: moved to Gangwon Province (pre-1910). Participants were unanimously supportive of a move away from the current title, but the original proposal was found to be potentially ambiguous with the present-day Gangwon Province, South Korea. Consequently, "Gangwon Province (pre-1910)" emerged as a consensus option that would most clearly delineate the article scope. Gangwon Province (Korea) → Gangwon Province, Korea – The parentheses imply a disambiguation, but there's no other country in the world with a Gangwon Province.
This new title matches the formatting of the descendent split provinces of Gangwon Province, South Korea and Kangwon Province, North Korea. Note that Gangwon Province existed during the Joseon and Korean Empire periods, so Gangwon Province, Joseon wouldn't/shouldn't work. seefooddiet (talk) 05:29, 5 August 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. - Support the new name is WP:NATURAL, and using ", Korea" encompasses both eras and fits the current short description of "Historical province in Korea". Dantus21 (talk) 05:35, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- Move to Gangwon Province (1395–1945). "Korea" is no disambiguation at all, especially given South Korea is commonly referred to simply as Korea. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:13, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- This wouldn't be correct though, per Kōgen-dō and Provinces of Korea#Districts of Late Joseon period. seefooddiet (talk) 12:08, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- How about Gangwon Province (pre-1945) or Gangwon Province (pre-1910)? -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:12, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- That's still incorrect in a similar way. 1910–1945 is covered by the article Kōgen-dō.
- Btw to all, there's another hairy factor at play with whether we consider the Japanese occupation of Korea to be "legal"; if so the province went by the name Kōgen-dō from 1910–1945. If not, the province remained "Gangwon Province" throughout that time. There's also the possibility of common name being relevant here, but these are all additional layers of hairiness that I don't have answers for.
- Gangwon Province, Korea is simply preserving the status quo but adjusting a style aspect of the disambig because I'm not sure what to do with the other hairiness. seefooddiet (talk) 09:19, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Gangwon Province (pre-1945) or Gangwon Province (pre-1910) are actually both accurate. Gangwon Province, Korea is simply not feasible due to the current province, which is also in Korea. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:16, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Wouldn't Gangwon Province (pre-1945) require the merging of Kōgen-dō? I'm still not quite following seefooddiet (talk) 14:25, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Not really. But in any case, that's why I also suggested Gangwon Province (pre-1910). What's the problem with that? -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:05, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- I'm asking a genuine question btw, I'm not following the logic. Why wouldn't the pre-1945 one require merging? Isn't there overlapping scope?
- Pre-1910 I may be warmer to, but it runs into Provinces of Korea#Districts of Late Joseon period; its tenure was briefly interrupted. seefooddiet (talk) 16:11, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- But how is that relevant? It's still entirely accurate that it's pre-1910! -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:43, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, I'd support Gangwon Province (pre-1910), but not the pre-1945 one. seefooddiet (talk) 18:01, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
