editWhere is it mentioned that Gardar Svavarsson was a viking? Until this statement is confirmed, I remove the word viking.
romanization
editwouldn't Garthar be the correct way to romanize his name?--Marhawkman (talk) 10:07, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Gardar Svavarsson → Garðar Svavarsson – Move the page from an anglicized name to his real name Snaevar (talk) 12:42, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Support - per The Cambridge Introduction to the Old Norse-Icelandic Saga etc., and en.wp practice with Icelandic names. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:38, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose this is a Swedish person, and the Swedish article is at se:Gardar Svavarsson. So, it's the Swedish form of his name. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 04:57, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
- Support - per In ictu oculi. His name is known from Icelandic sources, which state him to be Swedish, but Gardar is a Swedish translitteration of the Icelandic spelling and therefore "secondary". Given that he predates Old Swedish, using the Icelandic spelling seems more reasonable in this case. Tomas e (talk) 12:02, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- If he is Swedish, and like every other article one people from X, we use X's modern spelling of the person, then this should use the Swedish spelling. There are many articles where people are spelled the modern way from the locality they are from, not the way it is spelled where they are not from. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 23:30, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Support; let's use the spelling preferred by sources. bobrayner (talk) 11:41, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
