The result of the proposal was} move. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:02, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Relisting at WP:RM because there has been no relevant discussion here as yet. No case has been made for the move in terms of Wikipedia:naming conventions, just a challenge given for others to provide reasons that the move should not occur. Andrewa (talk) 14:45, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The web page at http://www.gwusports.com/ uses both the titles Gardner-Webb University Athletics and Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs in its banner. Not quite sure how best to frame Google searches to provide evidence either way, but my first attempts did support the move.

The question is, does the Runnin' Bulldogs name (brand, I guess) have strong general recognition both inside and outside of Gardner-Webb University, and across all sports? If so, there may be a case. If not, it's probably best to stick with the name that even people who may never have heard of the University will at least connect to athletics. Both names seem to be used by the University itself, and are acceptable; The question is, which is better? Andrewa (talk) 15:06, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Many college/university websites also include the word "athletics" somewhere in the title. However, that is not the name of the athletic teams themselves. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/MasterTeamTable and Wikipedia:WikiProject College basketball/Master Table for an idea on naming coventions. In each case the team name should be used for the athletics article. I would say that 200+ team articles would set precedent on how the article should be named. As I believe the anonymous IP contested this just to cause trouble, I am going to relist this at Requested Moves. Geologik (talk) 18:40, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Additionally, back in December I made a similiar request to move Marist Red Foxes (athletics) to Marist Red Foxes. JPG-GR recognized the case for movement and did so within minutes. Perhaps, I'll go straight to him and ask. Geologik (talk) 18:43, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
