Neutrality

This article gets more than a little effusive at times. Seriously, "triumphal progress was irresistible"? I'll try to clean it up, but any help would be appreciated. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 14:57, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, recently found this article while lurking Wikipedia. I know I'm replying like, 3 years later, but I can certainly assist with NPOV-ing. In fact, as I'm currently interested in removing promotional/non-NPOV edits as of now, I just got rid of some of the non-NPOV stuff in this article.

NPOVing/removal of puffery

Hello, I just changed some of the language of the article to be more WP:NPOV and got rid of some MOS:PUFFERY so the focus of the article is less on praising the subject but more on informing the readers of the subject.

Is there anything else I should do to further NPOV this article, or is this article sufficiently NPOV as of now?

@Shadow of the Starlit Sky: For the most part I agree with your edits, however you removed two old references without proper justification, so I restored them (1, 2). I also added a few Lithuanian WP:RS and made some minor changes. -- Pofka (talk) 19:52, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Oops, didn't mean to do that to the sources (I'm still a newbie to Wikipedia, please be patient). Also, thanks for adding the sources to the article and making these edits.

Once again, should I remove the NPOV dispute template, or should I keep it for now?

GDL lands owned by Teutonic Knights/Livonian Order?

Can someone check this claim, currently in the article?

Gediminas inherited land consisting of Lithuania proper, Samogitia, Navahrudak, Podlasie, Polotsk and Minsk.However, these possessions were all owned by the Teutonic Knights and the Livonian Order.

This seems highly dubious, and would apparently imply that the GDL was just a vassal to the German knights. I don’t think the TK/LO ever controlled Minsk, for example, based on Timeline of Minsk.

I can’t access the 2011 source, but the 1911 source just says that these lands were "environed by powerful and greedy foes, the most dangerous of them being the Teutonic Knights and the Livonian knights of the Sword", which is a totally different claim. In fact, even changing the word “owned” to “surrounded” wouldn’t be right, because not all of these lands bordered TK/LO, just some of them.

That said, the history of the region is pretty complex (for example, I know Samogitia definitely was ruled by TK during certain periods), so I’m not 100% sure of what I wrote above, and someone who is more knowledgeable should take a look. 70.172.194.25 (talk) 21:50, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
