Fair use rationale for Image:Geely logo.gif
editImage:Geely logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:07, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Geely operates two automobile companies
editGeely operates two automobile companies in China:
- Zhejiang Geely Automobile
- Shanghai Maple Guorun Automobile
SMA (Shanghai Maple) is a subsidiary of Geely. I think the "Zhejiang Geely Automobile" is Geely itself. --Love Krittaya (talk) 13:35, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Geely GE Prototype
editThe GE stands for Geely Excellence. The Geely GE was launched at the Shanghai Motor show in April 2009 where it was immediately branded a "Phantom knock-off".
The 5.4 metre prototype, painted black and given pride of place on a raised plinth in the middle of Geely's stand is undeniably based on the shape of the Rolls in the shape of its cabin, windows and down-sloping rear deck.
Although Geely claims to be 're-inventing the classic' Rolls-Royce bosses considering their options and have consulted lawyers and say the company is keeping its options open. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is very protective of its brand image and takes seriously any attempt to imitate it's products.
The grille, the Flying Lady mascot, also known as the Spirit of Ecstasy, and the Rolls-Royce name and initials are specifically protected.
The car comes with an air purifier with separate air conditioning, described as an 'oxygen bar', cigar storage, a refrigerator and a 'starlight' interior roof lining which was a feature of the original Phantom.
The original Rolls-Royce Phantom has a price tag of £250,000 while the Geely GE expects a price of just £30,000. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.211.49.2 (talk) 05:22, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
sales figures
editSomewhere this article needs to give the total number of cars sold in China for various years so one can compare Geely with, say, Ford, or GM.98.225.109.243 (talk) 15:28, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Breaking Geely and Zhejiang into 2 pages
editGeely auto and the Zhejiang holding group should be broken into two seperate pages. This is because they are seperate organisations - Geely is not Zhejian Holding Group as suggested by the page headline.
Any further advice or ideas for this?
"Too many" images?? NO !!
editI completely disagree. Three or four images per model would be quite acceptable. And I have nothing to do with this company. We outside of China don't get many images of modern chinese cars, and I become "geleous" when I read of the number of electric cars in China, compared to the west.
In all websites of companies which I visited (especially big ones, even Tesla, which I respect very highly for what it has done) there was a lot of rubbish (like moving and/or interchanging images and bla-texts and irrelevant images) so it would have taken me a loooot of time to get to the informations which I wanted.
So I appreciate all the images which I can get in the wikipedia, without !! all this "noise".
Please ping me. Steue (talk) 05:38, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
"Too many charts or diagrams"?? NO !!
editIf a diagram or chart is good, it is always much better than a table. And any table or list is better than prose. But I appreciate explaining additional text to a list or table or diagram.
please ping me. Steue (talk) 05:45, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Some useful guidance for divisions/subsidiaries from Geely.
editGeely's recently published this org chart, which clarifies things quite a bit:

...if anyone's looking to help add some organization to the chaos that is this article, here you go. :)
Images
edit@No coffee, please.: The way I see it, adding Volvo and Polestar images in the Geely article is like adding MINI and Rolls-Royce images at BMW (the BMW article both covers the brand and the group). Despite its illustrative use, it feels unnecessary because each brand has its own article (which is linked there) where people can view images of MINI and Rolls-Royce cars respectively. Andra Febrian (talk) 06:08, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- This is handled elsewhere better than BMW, I think. The problem is the ambiguity between parent and children/subsidiary organizations. The truth is in some cases the parent organization makes only 2-3 models (or none at all!), whereas the subsidiaries should be showcased as important constituent entities.
- For example:
- Volkswagen Group does not list any 'Volkswagen' branded cars, only mention of the constituent subsidiaries. For actual products, you must go to Volkswagen, which is the article for the automotive producing subsidiary.
- This is also true (and made more clear) when you look at Daimler or General Motors, which are both treated properly as corporate pages, whilst their primary marques (Mercedes and Chevy, respectively) are given their own pages. In those cases, it's quite easy to understand the relationship because the parent organizations have different names from the subsidiaries.
- In our case, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. or 'Geely Group', currently listed under Geely, is a distinct organization from 'Geely Auto', which is the primary automotive producing subsidiary. We're fallaciously currently listing them as one and the same because they share the same name. That's not how corporations are truly structured, each subsidiary of is a theoretically equal footing entity under the parent organization.
- I recently went through this whole song and dance with Great Wall Motors (still not done separating it all out properly) and I think the article is much better as a result. --No coffee, please. (talk) 06:24, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- Please also see the link I've posted in the talk section above which clarifies this: http://zgh.com/our-business/?lang=en --No coffee, please. (talk) 06:25, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- I understand that, in fact I separated Template:Zhejiang Geely Holding Group from Template:Geely. I appreciate that you separated the Geely brand from this article, something that I wanted to do but hesitated since researching Chinese brands aren't as easy as western brands. In this case I'm only concerned with images of Lynk&Co, Lotus, Volvo, and Polestar cars in Geely which isn't appropriate given these brands has its own articles. You did bring up the Volkswagen Group article which in fact only proves my point because it does not contain a gallery of SEAT, Lamborghini, Bentley or Bugatti cars. Andra Febrian (talk) 06:32, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- I'd argue it should. Not complete, exhaustive galleries of all models, but illustrative ones would help users understand what each brand is about, definitely. In my eyes, there's no better way to explain what the 'Benelli' brand is about than an actual picture of a Benelli bike.
- Compromise: Would a single, right-aligned image, as an example for each brand, be more appropriate?
- Additional question to you: You didn't remove the galleries for LEVC, Zhidou, or Geometry. Why? --No coffee, please. (talk) 06:52, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

- I guess a single right-aligned image will be fine. As for LEVC, Zhidou, or Geometry, that was due to an oversight and I should have removed it. Andra Febrian (talk) 06:57, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Size of company
editThis page states Geely is the seventh largest auto manufacturer in China, while the page for Li Shufu Li Shufu states that Geely is the second largest privately owned manufacturer. The link to Geely Automotive industry in China#List of Chinese automobile manufacturers by sales and revenue from this page states it is the largest privately owned. These discrepancies will eventually need to be clarified and fixed. Editz001 (talk) 00:03, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- It depends on when.
- China has the world's largest automobile market and the competition is extremely fierce. The ranking of Chinese automobile manufacturers shifts significantly in past decade.
- By checking the the reference of the statement of Li Shufu you mentioned, I notice it happened in a interview of him in 2010. It is fact that Geely is the second largest private owned manufacture in 2010, but it soon became the largest and kept the position from 2011 to 2022.
- However, Geely is very likely to fall back to second largest due to the rapid expansion of BYD this year. Infinty 0 (talk) 02:25, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
