The result of the move request was: move to George Hutchinson (English footballer). Everyone supports a move in this discussion, the only issue of contention being the nature of the disambiguating term. Support is greater for disambiguating by nationality. Xoloz (talk) 03:54, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
George Hutchinson (footballer born 1929) → George Hutchinson (footballer) – There is only one footballer named George Hutchinson with a WP article so further disambig with DOB is pointless. This change was reverted with a claim that it is needed in order to disambiguate from a similarly named Australian rules footballer. A DOB doesn't serve any disambiguation purpose for that reason. - Support per nom. HandsomeFella (talk) 09:53, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose as proposed name is ambiguous with George Hutchinson (Australian rules footballer). He is also a footballer obviously so it is incorrect to say there is only one. Disambiguating by date of birth is entirely standard. Tassedethe (talk) 19:12, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- How does adding his date of birth disambiguate him from the Australian? Having his birth year doesn't make it any more distinct that he's not the other guy - it's adds nothing and is pointless. One is the only footballer, the other the only Australian rules footballer with articles, that is disabiguated enough, all that is required is a hatnote. - Oppose. The proposed page is ambiguous because Australian Rules football is also known as "football" in the parts of Australia where it is the main sport. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 16:52, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose - a better suggestion would be '(English footballer)' or '(association footballer)' GiantSnowman 17:26, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Move to George Hutchinson (English footballer). Nationality is a far better disambiguator than birth date. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:36, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- Comment - based on responses I'd support a move to George Hutchinson (Association footballer), the key issue is the YOB doesn't add anything to the disambiguation. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 10:57, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
- Rename to George Hutchinson (English footballer) as the most informative disambiguator. The nominator's proposal of simply "footballer" is ambiguous.
The alternative proposal of George Hutchinson (Association footballer) is slightly longer and less precise, so I can see no advantage to it. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 03:09, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
