Copied fm main article
editI spun this out from the main George Washington article. Maurreen 22:59, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
spin it back in, this article doesn't deserve seperate articlage--68.127.37.186 03:25, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Second that, and proposed--69.111.85.28 01:28, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Despite the two opinions above, this separate article has received many edits since; if merging is decided upon, this content should actually be merged, not simply deleted. --Adavidb 03:22, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
If it is to remain a separate article, then it should be properly footnoted, as facts which every American "knows" are not necessarily known to others. --Philip Baird Shearer 10:46, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
The fact that this page EXISTS is dumb.
editThe full biography of a person should be in one page. Soon, it's gonna come down to what George Washington did in a single decade, then what he did in a single year, and, eventually,...what he did in a certain second in history. I'm REALLY surprised no one has brought this up before. (This comment was posted by Pitman6787 -LOOKIE MILK! (talk) 12:07, 22 February 2008 (UTC))
Sign your name next time.
Also, this happens with many pages. This is much more helpful than the Washington article itself. If the full biography is supposed to be in one page, we would have some very long pages.
Unless a better argument is given, I will delete this headline and all in it in 5 days.
Height
editAlways read he was 6' 3 1/2" tall, with a case being made for him being at least an inch taller in his younger days. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TruckTurner (talk • contribs) 17:17, 10 June 2008
- Where did you read this? If from a reliable/verifiable source, it can be included here. —Adavidb 04:10, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
6'3" is generally the accepted height, frequently stated by career historians and authors such as Joseph Ellis, author of a biography of Washington entitled His Exellency. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.175.54.86 (talk) 02:27, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Birthdate
editThe correct date of Washington's Julian-calendar birthdate is Feb. 11, 1731. I've added references that can be checked. Here are the URL's:
- Engber, Daniel (2006).What's Benjamin Franklin's Birthday?. (Both Franklin's and Washington's confusing birth dates are clearly explained.)
- Papers of George Washington Image of page from family Bible This one was brought over from the main GW article. The date is shown as 1731/2, and this is the way the dates were shown back in Washington's time.
So Washington's Julian birthdate is February 11, 1731, and his Gregorian birthdate is February 22, 1732. Best of everything to you and yours! .`^) Paine Ellsworthdiss`cuss (^`. 08:55, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
