Death
editNo information on how this great genius died. His death was rather untimely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.100.101.77 (talk) 09:28, 29 April 2008 (UTC) Either you missed it or it was updated with the information that he died of Typhoid Fever. -- Phil — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.187.233.178 (talk) 13:44, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Conflicting death dates
editI just add a reference for the existing birth/death dates (Feb.14 1859 - Nov.22 1896), but now I've found conflicting death dates:
- Nov.21 - Pennsylvania Center for the Book
- Nov.22 - New York Times
- Nov.22 - Chase's
- Nov.23 - Los Angeles Times
- Nov.26 - ExplorePAhistory.com
Any suggestions? 86.186.44.85 (talk) 20:25, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Odd Treatment of Circumstances Surrounding the Disposition of Ferris' Remains
editWhy is there mention of the odd circumstances surrounding the disposition of Mr. Ferris' remains as though Wikipedia were a gossip blog? I'm not sure which is worse: the fact that it's mentioned at all, or the fact that it's mentioned in such an offhand way which seems to suggest some sort of scandal regarding the man's private affairs or lack thereof. The entry does not lead one to expect the title of the article cited, and should be stricken from the entry or expanded in such a way as to clarify the circumstances. This is not the place to post gossip. If you're going to share information then share it, or don't bother to enter it at all. Infinityseed (talk) 06:57, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
It's a simple fact presented with a proper citation. Don't know what your problem is, other than another namefag trying to sound important. Take the stick out of your ass; you might live longer and not come across as a complete douchebag. 2001:558:6026:9:10B:8555:FD29:2987 (talk) 14:56, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
I think Infinityseed has a point. It is handled oddly, with no explanation given regarding the actual circumstances. The reader has to read the cited article for details that should be in this article. Additionally, the cited article does not say what the outcome is so the "over a year" part needs it's own cite. And personal attacks are against policy. Surely you can do better than that?! Argel1200 (talk) 20:32, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Run-on sentence
editThe article presently includes...
- When the fair opened, it carried some 38,000 passengers daily, taking 20 minutes to complete two revolutions, the first involving six stops to allow passengers to exit and enter and the second a nine-minute non-stop rotation, for which the ticket holder paid 50 cents.
Please break that up into several sentences, such that the subject (as in "subject, object, verb") is clear in each. As it stands, "it carried 38,000 passengers" has "the fair" as the subject; in the fourth clause "the first" and "the second" are not obviously referring to 'revolutions'; in the fifth clause "for which..." seems to refer to "the second". Also "When the fair opened" is a moment in time that does not jive with "daily". Perhaps something like the following would be an acceptable resolution?
- The fair's Ferris wheel carried on average some 38,000 passengers daily. The 20-minute ride, during which the wheel completed two revolutions, cost 50 cents. The first revolution had six stops to allow passengers to exit and enter, while the second revolution was a nine-minute non-stop rotation.
Thanks. -- 79.225.8.1 (talk) 11:23, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Origin of the Ferris wheel concept
editGrowing up in Minden, NV, I was told of the origin of the wheel concept was as shown in the following link http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wanda/ferriswheel.html I'm not much of a Wiki person, so please use this as you wish. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.216.214.227 (talk) 17:16, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
What happened to the litigation and who took possession of his remains?
editThey are both mentioned, but the outcomes are not. Are both unknown? Argel1200 (talk) 20:21, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
editCyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
