Upper Basin
editDoes anyone know what is left? Google satellite view clearly shows the lower basin, the lock, and quite a bit of the upper basin. Pictures on Commons show a new operational swing bridge over the lock. I cannot find any published sources to say what has been done. Bob1960evens (talk) 11:20, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

1898 Act
editThe London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Act 1898 (61 & 62 Vict. c. cxi), found here, provides for the widening of the railway north of the river, but makes no mention of closing or shortening the canal. Would this have been entirely recorded within the 'deposited plans'? or would there be a separate Act (of which I cannot see any evidence)? or did the railway already own the canal and could therefore do as it liked? -- Verbarson talkedits 18:20, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
